I wonder if any of you PC experts could maybe give me a clue what's up with this f%<king Laptop. I bought it last Chrimbo for about £700, it's a Toshiba with 192MB RAM, celeron D and it runs like a one legged granny on magic mushrooms. I've had enough of it, it has always been this slow, is this normal? When i start it up it takes no time at all to get to the Desktop but then grinds on for about 6-7 doing nothing until it will respond. My mates got the exact same model and his does the same thing.

Wish i'd put a bit more to and bought a Mac.

I suppose it depends on what's running in the background i.e how many programmes it's loading up. Have you tried going running msconfig and seeing if there are any programmes you can prevent loading up at the start?

Also 192Meg is a bit light

might be worth putting a bit more on. Does sound though like there is a program not starting properly and hogging your CPU - can you hit crtl alt del and start the task manager and see if you can spot which app is causing the problem

Goto Start/Run and type msconfig and click ok. Click on the Startup tab and have a butchers to see if any programmes are listed in there that you don't require to start up with your PC. Be very very careful what you untick tho'. If you're not sure, leave it be.

Post a list of what is running and I'll try and see what's what

Also, do CTRL+ALT+DEL and note how many processes are running. Anymore than 35 is too many in all honesty....when you have no user started programmes running
