and cold tonight. To cold for me anyway. The game was drab and without being a negative soul, it was a good job Gillingham are wnak and I mean wnak.
My usual player points are insignificant cos I have numerous questions that need asking?
Why the hell did we put Kell on and switch Hayes to left back - which is how we set up at the 2nd half kick off. We only switched to 343 5-10 mins after that. Kell has played Centre half before - Austin to left back Why when switching Hayes to left back did he then go up front when we were defending a corner. After which Hayes took 2 mins trying to work out where he was supposed to be and if Gills had a clue what they were doing they would have scored. Replace Devaney with Richards when we could have put Kell on and switched McPhail there? 3-4-3 only works when you have players that fit the system - you can't fit the players round the system. Tommy Wright is not the messiah that we wanted however works the channels well and his goal was not a foul in the first half - perfect vantage point from the west stand near the away fans. I'll leave it there cos I don't want to make a mountain out of 3 points gained, it was just a worry thats all.
All in all a good days work cos we have yet again walked away with 3 points in the bag and in the past we have cried out for a side that has done the 'dirty' work......... Onwards and upwards cos when we do get it right we are going to smash somebody.

I would also like to add that..... Austin was outstanding again tonight and Reid was equally as competant. The pair of them are actually showing as our best duo and if it wasn't for the fact that Austin can play at either right or left back I would keep it like that.
I would also like to add that..... because my PC has repeated the previous post I have edited to say that I like Wine.

Not to start the 2nd half....... I was already aware that WIlliams wasn't returning and I made a note of who would go to LB.
When we started the 2nd half we set up with 4 at the back with Hayes there. Whether that was Hayes' inexperience at that position and stood there like a plank..........that was how we set up with Tonge playing at a normal right back position - thus like a plank!!

RE: Not to start the 2nd half....... The way the line up is not always the plan (deception methinks!), its how they then play from then on. And it was 352
RE: Not to start the 2nd half....... Football is all about opinions mate and I don't begrudge yours at all. At the end of the day we are arguing about the movement of one solitary figure within a 10 yard radius.................3-4-3 or 3-5-2 or 3-3-4 or 3-2-5..............I bet I know you? your that bloke on Little Britain who keeps asking for the pirate memory game?

RE: Not to start the 2nd half....... To be honest, I'm not suprised no one is sure what foirmation that was because it was pretty fluid. Hayes was playing as left everything, Shuker was playing as right wing back, Tonge was playing as right back and Reid and Austin played as central defenders. Sort of. Anyway, it worked, it did seem to confuse the Gills and thats what mattered. Did Colgan have to make a single save last night?
