Against Newcastle a guy behind me said something along the lines of "Winnall never wins anything in the air, can't hold the ball up and his striker positional sense is *****", I really hope he sees the highlights of our goals today. I really don't get it with Winnall, he's a striker who puts the ball in the back of the net, good enough for me.
TBF he's normally distinctly average in the air and over the last few weeks in particular I've noticed him winning more than his fair share. He seems to be attacking it more than usual. Dunno if its something they/he's been working on but its working. I thought he did ok against the Geordies, put himself about and looked sharp, although some on here thought he was gash. But like I said the other day they are normally the ones with place names followed by 'Red' or 'Tyke'.
He's played well since he came off the bench against Villa, he seemed to have something more about him that night- aggression, better touch etc. A good response from a good player. I thought he had a decent game against Newcastle.
He puts the ball in the net. That's one of Sams strengths, but that's not good enough for some on here.
It's become a bit of a myth that all he does is score. I don't think Watkins helps in that he's non-stop & involved in lots of build up play & it makes whoever plays alongside him look lazier. Watch Winnall every time we get a throw in or go watch the Fletcher play off final goal to see what else he offers
Winnall has looked good scince he came on against villa. He was unlucky to get injured on the 1st day of the season and he will score at this level given the service... as will armstrong, bradshaw and watkins. Only thing what let's Sam down at times is his attitude good to see him celebrating the goals yesterday though.
Winnall does put much more of a shift in than he used to, including defending. Even on the brief highlights from Brentford there's more than one shot of him back in our box.
If he keeps his current strike rate up he'll ge around 15-17 goals this season. Not a bad return for someone not good enough! He's adapting his game so he doesn't have to rely on pace.
Spot on. He did a terrific block just before half time to stop a certain goal. I remember against Villa when he tracked back and did a terrific covering clearance then a few minutes later scored the equaliser. Along with Watkins, Armstrong and Bradshaw I don't think we could ask for anyone better realistically
