    Winnie

If you read Redfearn's book, he attributes a major part of Barnsley's success under Danny Wilson, to Eric Winstanley. He rates Winnie very highly.

Hendrie found the transition from being "one of the blokes" to manager too difficult. One minute you're larking about with mates, next thing you're having to drop them, and instill your authority. Too hard for Hendrie and many others.

Too old? - Yes, you must be right, just like Sir Alex Ferguson, same age.
