I've installed a wireless card in my mother in-laws desk top. It sees the router (about 20M away in brother in-laws house) and connects to it. But it won't connect to the internet. The software diagnostics say that the internet isn't connected to the router. I'm using my lap top sat next to the desk top, which proves it is.
Any pointers?
It's a Belkin Wireless G v.7021uk.
I've tried using both XP and the supplied software to control it, same problem with both, although XP is having problems connecting at all. There are 2 bars on the wireless connection utility in XP.
Thanks

Are there any buttons on the router? On our Orange router we had the same problem about a week ago when Orange stopped working (no surprise). And there are 2 buttons which you have to hold down to put the router into 'pairing mode', then you have to try and connect to it again whilst it's in pairing mode.
If you can connect using your laptop - Check the status logs on the router (http://192.168.2.1 username: admin password: admin) [or check manual] to see if it is giving your mums PC an IP address via DHCP. If it is, then the connection is fine, its the configuration on the PC's internet connection that's wrong. Check: Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings. Untick any boxes that may be ticked. If the router isn't distributing an IP address on your mum's PC, check your network card settings. Ensure the TCP/IP settings re ticked to 'Obtain IP address automatically'
Cheers This morning first thing it worked; then it stopped working. Laptop still fine. Will check the settings suggested.
