... this could be the end of this odious, over promoted, under talented, slimy, obnoxious ****. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/e...nto-humiliating-uturn-over-ebacc-8484074.html
Can I just point out, to all his detractors, Nick Clegg's part in this. I know it's not a popular position, but if it wasn't for the Lib Dems in this coalition government then the country would really be screwed by all the crazy ideas the Toroes would have got through to Parliament. Yeah, some **** did get through, but you cannot win all your battles, keep your powder dry and fight for the things you can win. And don't give me any bullsh1t about, oh the LibDems are keeping the Tories in power, no, the Tories would have found another coalition with Northern Irish MPs or gone to the country again and got a better return. Labour would not do a deal, even when the LibDems were crying out to help them, they shot themselves and the country in the foot, because they would not compromise, idiots.
Agree, but the Lib Dems were offered the chance to deal with Labour but they'd only have formed a minority government.
I doubt it. Its time Cleggy called time on this wedding. It is a shame he could not stop the privatisation of the NHS.
Did Labour not court the Lib Dems massively following the hung Parliament? Or did I imagine that too? It's not beyond this board to re-write recent history let alone ancient!!
They could have pulled in support from the Green and independents, Plaid Cymru etc to make it work, but it would not have been a rock solid gov.
They attempted to court them, but i think it was a 'rough wooing' The LibDems said they were happy to work with Labour, but only if Gordon Brown stood down, they were not happy with that. So, they ended up in opposition.... and Gordon stood down.
Far from rock solid - you then effectively hand power over to the smallest parties as they're the deal breakers. I don't think it would've worked and we'd have a Tory majority government by now.
What a brilliant phrase - I've never heard of "rough wooing" before. Sounds like it should carry a mandatory custodial sentence, mind.
I should have known about this, actually, because it involves the occupation of Haddington, which is twinned with Aubigny-sur Nere. They hold a "Fête Franco Ecossaise" there every July and I went a couple of years back - it's only a couple of hours drive away from us and some old friends of Mrs Burgundy Red are on the twinning committee. It's a small world.
Sounds like an accurate description of my attempts to pull. "That's pretty rough wooing Jay, no wonder you're not getting anywhere."
