I saw him play some brilliant games, but then he was poor at times, no different to our present squad.

yet better than having nobody there

I'd prefer souza or van homoet sat on the bench tomorrow night ready to come on if needed than knowing that there are no defenders on the bench

RE: yet better than having nobody there

Van Homoet may have had the odd poor game but he is/was a better full back than Calamity Kozluk. Can't remember him giving that many goals away or getting sent off for ridiculous lunging tackles. Likewise I realise that Souza didn't have a fantastic seaspn last year but was he really any worse than Moore?
I fear both they and Leon were victims of the "let's blame the foreigners" mood among a lot of supporters, which Davey appears to have gone with to appease the fans.
Also, Hammill didn't look too much like the prodigal son on Saturday. It helps if a winger has either pace, trickery or guile and he gave up the ghost a few times when it came to tracking back/aerial duels.

My problem with thse three were:

Van Homoet attacked down the flank and overlapped the winger, but never tracked back and left us exposed, but as you say, he didn't have too many dire games.

Souza made way too many mistakes last season and costs us a good few points.

Diego leon was far too lightweight to play in the middle and didn't get a look in on the wings because JCR, Hammill, El Haimour and Devaney were all prefered to him in that position.

    Limited Funds

When you have limited funds some players have to go in the hope that you can shuffle the pack and come up with a better hand. I think those three would have been high up on most peoples list for pushing out in the hope of getting better. It is one thing to hope for better - it is another to get them.

Would we have had any cover last year? If Kozluk had been suspended and Moore struggling it would be Van Homo on the left, Hassell on the right & Foster with Souza in the middle.

Granted we need cover but it's not a worse situation than last year. I think he'll bring someone in on loan pretty soon if it continues.
