Stage is set for Daniel to be TV star
NO-ONE stirs the Oakwell crowd quite like Daniel Nardiello.
He's the striker most likely to make something out of nothing and has long held the title 'best finisher at the club'. Despite notching up 100 appearances for Barnsley last week at Leeds, the 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place in the team over a season. Part reason for that is that he has been unlucky with injuries. This season, his first at Championship level, had a delayed start after a pre-season training ground accident left him with a broken collarbone. He is now fully fit and produced a classic Nardiello performance at Leeds. His two solo goals brought a valuable draw. As always, the challenge to him now is to show consistency. For a start, Barnsley caretaker manager Simon Davey wants the form showed at Elland Road transferred to Oakwell for Sunday's clash with West Brom. "Nards played at Leeds and produced two quality finishes. If we can get him firing like that at home, it's going to be of tremendous benefit to the club," Davey declared. Over 21,000 watched last Saturday's Yorkshire derby at Leeds. Millions more across the country are set to be tuned into Sky coverage of Sunday's action. Nardiello is a big-stage player. He showed that with a goals in the play-off semi-final and final last season. Not that Davey expects any of his team to play to the gallery. "I really don't think it matters much that it's on the television, the players will be 100 per cent professional," he forecast. Meanwhile, Davey has made his admiration of West Brom's public knowledge. "They've spent a lot of money, they're a team who can have Nathan Ellington, who they bought for £3 million, on the bench," he said. "They've probably got the best squad in the division but we're at home and we'll give it a go. We've won our last three games at home." Former Welsh international John Hartson is hoping for a rare start for the Baggies after he came off the bench last week to score a last-minute winner against Derby.

Hartson. Great. Can't wait to see Bobby & Reid trying to pass him on to each other. Reid: I'll take the big man Bobby: Okay Later ... Reid: Erm - it seems he's beaten me to the ball every single time - do you want him for a while? Bobby: Ooohhh, my ankle has just gone - sorry, I need a shower. Doooooomed. We're doooooomed.
