    Total speculation but here goes.
Presumably these players were offered deals and given a timescale in which to sign them. They haven't done so. Surely this means they are considering other offers or holding out for a better deal.

    So the club can:
    A) Cave in to the demands of the player
    B) Leave the existing offer open and extend the timescale
    C) Withdraw the offer and seek to replace the player

We know money is tight, so the first option is unlikely. Option B delays the search for replacements if they don't sign and potentially leaves us either missing out on the best options or starting the season understaffed. That leaves option C.

If we're not willing to negotiate further we must be confident of landing replacements of similar quality for similar money, in which case bring it on.

Thanks for your service and sorry to see you both go. Onwards and upwards.

George Williams was still on holiday as of a couple of days ago. Surely he would have been afforded the time to return and weigh up his options.
