How do we know that the "boffin's gadget" was correct?

I am sure that the court asked that question

am fairly sure that the boffins gadget will be very accurate as it will be GPS based and I am sure he had to demonstrate its accuracy to the court.

There are many documented cases of inaccurate hairdrier readings. I am amazed they can ever get a conviction with them as many things can cause an inaccurate reading.
