Great post, sums up the day brilliantly.

We arrived in Huddersfield yesterday, and parked up. No idea which pub to go to - just said 'the first one we see'. As we stopped at the lights to cross the road, the Team Coach pulled up at the lights. We cheered them on - "wow, great start...is that an omen"?? We rocked up to first pub we saw - The Sportsman. Knew nothing about it. CAMRA pub, complete stroke of luck, great ale. Great start, but struggling for a seat. Some Town fans made some room and invited us to their table.

After first pint, eventually got chatting. We talked about this and that, compared notes, and nerves. We all agreed the perfect result would be for Palace to win, and us to play out a draw. We joked about passing the ball to each other in the centre circle.

As we headed our separate ways, we shook hands and agreed to meet back after the match, if we both managed the miracle. The old boy said a pint would be waiting for us.

After staying in the Stadium for a good 30 minutes after the final whistle, we finally made our way back to The Sportsman...."he won't still be there waiting for you now, surely?" our lass said..."yeah maybe, but a deal's a deal", said I

We walked through the door, and there they were. Huge smiles, two pints waiting for us, on the table.

As we all chinked glasses, shook hands and hugs, his son's girlfriend said she had her own announcement to make. She discovered on Friday she was 10 weeks pregnant. Didn't want to mention anything until the match was over. First time the old boy was going to be a grandad, knew nothing about it until that moment. Spontaneous tears from old boy - drinks all round.

A day I will never ever forget.
