Yep agree , had we beaten charlton and got point at Blackpool , people would have been saying it was a decent enough start and time to kick on

Kind of agree on the Blackpool game, we deserved a point and lost to the most bizarre of goals in the last second but I can't understand why people point to the Charlton game in the same way. We had the beating of them and then cocked up tactically - we got what we deserved. Also, we could have quite easily conceded in the final stages against Hudds so imo it all equals out - we are where we deserve to be.

    Agreed.

Flicker is under pressure, make no bones about that....and he will know it.

I try to consider the fact that Flicker sees these players most days so must surely know who the best players are better than us on here...I just don't think that's the case anymore.

Is he basing his selections purely on the statistical information clubs have access to these days? I reckon he could be, but football is not baseball or cricket, you can't manage it like that. This could also explain why Mellis and Cwyka haven't been starting despite being two of our most serious goal threats.

Agree with you.....but if we're not putting a effort in to trying to win the game, what's the point?, a feel sorry for O'grady he's the only player with the heart trying to create and score....it's all down to flicker. A love the man but for god sake drop Dawson play mellis put Jennings and McCourt wide, create width. Get at teams and cause a threat!....where gutless and look weak.....best squad we've had for absolute years.

if he's on the pitch though he will get you a goal every three or four games, doesn't particularly work hard but where has working hard got the midfielders he persists with?

I think he does work, but he definitely seems to have a stamina problem compared to most players,I like Mellis but his goal record is only 8 in 52 for us.

    Dawson 4 in 49, Perkins 2 in 69.

Do we have a plan B? I'm not aware of one if there is.

But they aren't given the freedom to do nothing but sit behind the front two and create are they?

For what its worth I rate Mellis. He is our key man. But this season when given the chance he has been poor and has been a passenger. Hence why he hasn't been playing. We desperately need him on form and repay the freedom that the other midfielders tenacity affords him.

How many of those starts was Mellis shoved on the right wing. No one wants to be shoved there for a start and it is usually to accomodate the toilers.

Fair point, but on the right wing he isn't usually required to do much tracking back.

As I've said before in a midfield 3, certainly at home, we should only be playing 2 from Dawson, Etuhu and Perkins. BUT at this point I would suggest that only Mellis from our creative players is capable of genuinely influencing a game in the Butterfield role, and he just hasn't done that this season.

A different question, if we were playing 4-4-2 do you think Mellis offers enough workrate to be one of the central two, or at the tip of a diamond, like Butterfield did?

I'm not quite sure why we are starting games against moderate opposition with 4 defenders, 3 defensive midfielders and a forward who god bless him cant score and is included for work rate. Particularly as these tactics haven't given us the defensive solidity that we crave.
