Best - I will go for Charlton Athletic at home 4-0 - Promotion Season or Pompey in the 99/00 season - won 6-0 then lost away to Ipswich by the same scoreline week after haha Worst - Well loads to pick from this season but i am going to go with Norwich last relegation to L1 - less fight than this season and that says something
Best memories of great performances include: Charlton at home the year we went up. We were just in total control and footballed them to death. As you say 4 - 1. The events walking back up the hill towards the Outpost at the end, as Wolves let a 2-1 lead slip into a 2 - 3 reverse were unforgettable. That's when I really knew we were going to do it. Happy days. The year we came down: beating Huddersfield 7-1. Only saw that on TV though sadly. Was it that season or the next that we slammed Blackburn Rovers 5 - 1 at Oakwell? Think it was the following year because Ashley Ward was on their bench. At the end of the season they bought Hignett off us and our bubble burst. Season before last tearing Leeds to bits - was it 4 or 5 -1? They crocked Butterfield but we hammered them. A few seasons earlier we won 3 - 2 and McIndoe scored a scorching winner. Great entertainment. Worst games I've seen at Oakwell: Getting beaten 3 - 1 by Wolves in the promotion season. We gave away a two goal lead very early on and we were **** for 90 minutes. Getting beaten by the same score, same season, by QPR. We just weren't at the races. The relegation match against Norwich. Like a funeral. So many games I have forgotten, but I remember walking away from Oakwell feeling bitter and muttering "that's it, I'm never going back". I was at Portman Road when they totalled us 7-1, with a party of Ipswich fans. Absolute football humiliation that day.
Best: Beating Huddersfield 7-1 was the first that came to mind although there are a few contenders. Worst: Most of last season or the Norwich game the last time we were relegated.
Charlton game as mentioned. 4-0 demolition. Total football. Further back, beating Chelsea 4-0 in the cup in 1989 weren't bad either. Worst game - plenty in recent years. Sent from my SM-T210 using Tapatalk
7-1 v Huddersfield 3-2 v ManU 1-0 v Chelsea 5-2 or whatever v Leeds Worst? So many to choose from. I'll go with being 1-0 up v Plymouth(?) at halftime and then Jamie Mackie teaching us a second half lesson to lose 4-1.
Best performance at Oakwell - Barnsley in the 7 - 1 victory over Huddersfield Worst performance at Oakwell - Huddersfield in the 7 - 1 defeat to Barnsley
Worst games I've seen at Oakwell: Getting beaten 3 - 1 by Wolves in the promotion season. We gave away a two goal lead very early on and we were **** for 90 minutes. We can't have been that bad if we gave away a 2 goal lead, but only lost 3-1
I'd argue the best was the 1-0 win over Chelsea, people said that it was a 'weak' team but about half the team were regular starters. It was a team who's so called 2nd string had won league, champions league & league cup games that same season. It wasn't just that we got the win it was that they barely had a clear chance. In terms of quality of football then the Huddersfield games the best in my lifetime. Total football & the greatest goal I've ever seen us score. No idea on worst performance, there's too many to mention! Probably one of the many away games over the past 8 years where we never got off the bus
Best: 4-1 v Donny 2008. JCR what a goal Worst: 0-3 v Deedar Wednesday 2007. Robbie Williams in midfield Simon? Wtf
Glavin team against Fulham, we were 3-0 down after half an hour and won 4-3. Malcolm MacDonald was there manager and a Cunningham hat trick. Seem to remember losing by a high score to a Port Vale side at home in the 80s when we didn't turn up
Worst performance - no real stand out one, most of the 70's with the odd exception Best - I'm going for a one off team display where we made one of the best teams in Europe with some of the best players in the world look ordinary ,the 1-0 Chelsea FA Cup win under Davey. Where that display came from by those players and that manager I still can't quite believe.
