Sunderland midfielder Tommy Miller has been given the go ahead to go out on loan by manager Roy Keane with former club Ipswich favourites to land his services. Miller has made just three appearances for The Black Cats this season but none whilst Keane has been in charge. The ex-Tractor Boy has held talks with the Sunderland boss regarding his future in recent weeks after making it known that he has become frustrated at his lack of first-team opportunities. Keane has revealed he is sympathetic to Miller's situation and to others not regularly involved on match days such as Arnau Riera and William Mocquet, and says players not involved will be allowed to go out on loan. Ipswich boss Jim Magilton is aware of his former Portman Road team-mate's situation and the 27-year-old could be set to make a return to the Suffolk club as soon as this weekend. "Tommy was out when I first came in with an illness. There's clubs who have been in touch about taking Tommy on loan," Keane told the Northern Echo. "The other two lads have come from abroad and it takes time to adapt. You weigh up players differently. "There might be a bit of movement in the next few weeks. "There might be one or two more going out on loan because we have lots of players at this football club and with us not being in a reserve league they need to go out and play. "I haven't got a problem with players coming to see me and saying they're frustrated, it's not a problem. "We'll see how it goes. Tommy might want to go and get some games. "I've gone down the road of bringing in one or two experienced midfielders and I think we're strong in that department. I know Tommy can play up front too but we're strong in that sense too. "I think it's only right that a player goes out and I think he will do well wherever he goes. He will probably score goals. "There's a good chance some of them will come back," Keane added. "You don't know what's going to happen, how they will fit in at other clubs, so we'll see how it pans out."
RE: Absolutely brilliant player We tried to sign him from Hartlepool after Redfearn left. He is the nearest thing to a Redfearn player you will find - a box-to-box player who also scores goals in the Redfearn mould from midfield. He chose Ipswich ahead of us, as they offered more money and were better placed. I am not sure, though, what his acquisition would do for team structure, as he would fit best into Togwell's position, which might not be a good idea. Toggers can play defence, though. Very good player, Miller.
