Southampton manager George Burley has added his name to the list of those interested in former Hearts defender Steven Pressley.
Pressley, 33, is wanted by a clutch of clubs following his acrimonious departure from Tynecastle.
Former Hearts boss Burley told BBC Sport: "I'm aware of Steven Pressley's situation and I'm monitoring it.
"But I would have to wait and see if we could do anything in the January transfer window."
Despite leaving Hearts at the weekend, Pressley is ineligible to sign for another employer until the opening of the transfer window.
Pressley's last game for Hearts was the goalless draw way to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in November.
The Scotland international joined Hearts in 1998 but recently fell out of favour after voicing concern about the way the club was being run by majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov.
Rangers are believed to head the queue for the services of Pressley, who has been capped 27 times by Scotland and began his career at Ibrox.
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has not ruled out an approach, while Dundee United, Dunfermline, Leeds and Cardiff have also been linked with the centre-half.
Sheffield United, Reading and Watford are among the Premiership clubs said to be keen, but Pressley could be interested in joining up with his former boss at Hearts.
Burley has a record of attracting players who previously played under him.
Former Hearts midfielder Rudi Skacel, Spurs striker Grzegorz Rasiak and ex-Derby playmaker Inigo Idiakez joined forces with their previous boss in preference to Premiership clubs.

Phillip Bardsley - on loan from Man United or Jon Otsemobor (Crewe) is where we should be looking. Todd or Matteo at Blackburn Davies or Wheater at Boro Collins from Sunderland (just to piss McCarthy off) strikers: Izale McLeod alongside Caleb Folan, oh yes.
RE: Phillip Bardsley - on loan from Man United Ostembor is a good call. Pacy right back who gets forward well and puts crosses in the box.
I think he's fallen out with Gradi has pace to burn and would fit the bill, think Austin is a better left back than right back actually. experienced centre back still a must, not sure if Lucketti could be tempted. and up front, a little speculation would serve us well, McLeod and Folan will eventually go for big money, not the finished article but would be a wise investment. Can see Hayes leaving in Jan, leaving us short up front.
RE: I think he's fallen out with Gradi He really has fallen out with Gradi. He won't sign new contract. Gradi says he's never seen him win a tackle.
He won a few against United from what I saw still young enough to develop, wasnt he at Rotherham for a bit? Bardsley's been told he's going back to United in Jan, he's another option.
RE: He won a few against United from what I saw Austin would be my 1st choice left back as well. However, I do think we need to try and sign 1 in Jan.
RE: He won a few against United from what I saw I think he's had "issues" in the past and I'm certain he'll be offered better deals from "bigger" clubs in January. Don't know much about Bardsley. I'd try for Peltier from Liverpool if they'll let him out.
Ryan Taylor at Wigan if he's recovered from injury. Kozluk if the Blades would let him out. Id mention Chris Barker currently on loan at Colchester, but hardly likely to get any favours from Cardiff. difficult position to fill.
RE: Ryan Taylor at Wigan Isn't Taylor a bit of a Richard Kell at the moment? Hasn't he broken his leg twice in rapid succession? Good player though - I agree. Majid Bougherra. Best £250k Wednesday will ever spend. Our current squad is one of the weakest 3 in the division, in my opinion. We need to appoint Paul Daniels as Manager in January - as his signings really do need to be magic.
Only player we're certain to sign is McCann. And he isn't even good enough to get in the Barnsley side. Money well spent.
It's only £160k though Jay. £90k less than we got for McIndoe. £110k more than we spent on Tommy Wright. £160k more than we've spent on defenders. One hundred and sixty thousand pounds sterling. On the bench. Have that.
That would be fun. I think we should ask the fans of all Division Two teams who their favourite player is ... then sign them all. We'll have a reyt side - it would look like this: Colgan Austin Reid Hassle Heckingbottom Hayes Togwell Howard Reid Knight Nardiello Bench: McCann & 4 x division two players. I think we should also employ an assistant manager, physio, dietician, academy manager, several other coaches ... but no first team manager. You know - just to make us look even dafter than we already do.
