No, but the more pertinent question is would Patrick. History would suggest he would probably take less than that.
No but I'd take £1.5m with goal/appearance add odds. I like Sam but he isn't worth anything near Washington their potential is poles apart. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
Nevermind their potential future career wise its about their potential in keeping morale and faith in the club, keeping fans on side, keeping our upturn in form going, looking like a club that actually wants to progress. That is worth more than £1.5m I'd say and you'd be bonkers to consider otherwise.
I agree which is why they won't sell him this window. But if anyone thinks we will get over £2 million for Winnall they are deluded. We would do VERY well to get £1.5 million. That's not because we are weak in negotiation its because no other club will pay that. The club are going to have to sell him at some point as he will walk for nothing. Footballers are not loyal and Sam will be the same. If Winnall walks for free at the end of his contract and we're still stuck in this division that £1.5m all of a sudden looks huge. Same applies if he snaps his very vunerable hamstring again. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
agree with most of that. if he stays injury free he'll bag 20+ goals this season. if he'd been played in the right formation and in the right position all season, i'm convinced he would already be there. with interest from bigger clubs, 12-months left on his contract and little prospect of him extending with us, the club will probably listen to offers. letting him go in this window though, for anything less than silly money, would be criminal
Agreed. Clubs pay for goals, pace and potential in a striker. This is why Callum Wilson, Conor Washington, Assombalonga, Dwight Gayle ect will all always be worth a lot more than Sam Winnall. They're young, pacey and all very athletic. Winnall is more in the categorie of Eoin Doyle, Will Grigg, Joe Garner, Paddy Madden. Those players as good as they are at scoring goals in the lower leagues. They will never command a big transfer fee as they lack pace which reduces their potential massively. Imagine if Scunny were calming Paddy Madden was worth £2 million right now. We'd be laughing at them. I would be anyway. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
Possibly one of the most important factors in determining how much he's worth. I'm sure any buying club will be well aware of Sam's injury record and factor it into any bid.
Surely the whole point of us giving out 3 year contracts was so WE could determine what we wanted and not 'be lucky to get' X amount. Personally, I'm looking to PC to say 'balls to em' we arnt selling for any amount just for once. He's put us through the disastrous first 4 months of the season and kept his man in charge, so to sell our best player just when results are starting to pick up? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Personally there's no way I'd sell for less than stupid money this window. It's too late to replace him and we still have an outside chance of the play offs and a reasonable chance of a Wembley JPT final. In the summer if we're still in this division, which is likely, we need to have a figure in mind that we want and if we sell, sell early. Then we can try to replace and move on. I would guess he will go in the summer and no one can blame him for that and I don't think anyone will. If we start to challenge this season then brilliant. However, if our chance of the play offs starts to peter out we MUST begin testing White and Ash in the first team. It would be negligent to go into next season without Sam not knowing if those two have the potential to step up.
Agree with that mate. Come the summer if he's turns down a contract extention then that is the time to move him on and build again. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
3 year contracts don't last forever. We can demand £2-3 million all we like but if other clubs don't deem him worth that they won't pay it. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
Good post mate, though what nobody seems to have mentioned throughout all of this discussion is that we could still quite conceivably go down. Unlikely I know, but far less unlikely if we sell our leading scorer.
