    Question put to SLO'S

Chance that funding could be found to put cycle stands / storage at Oakwell.

Would you use the facility ?

    Or waste of funding?

Probably the best idea for the Rochdale game - you'd get a clear run with the roads closed for you!

Way, way back you could park your bike in the back yard of the last house right at the bottom of the car park (where the burger van is now. Plenty used it. They must have made a little bit from match days. Good on them. Probably have to declare it for tax nowadays.

For now though, yes I would use my bike to get there if I lived close enough (27 miles is a bit too far!). They have cycle racks under the West Stand at Headingley. Anything that cuts down traffic on match day has to be a good thing.

Reminded me of story my dad told me that when he was a kid he'd cycle to Oawell and pay an old lady a penny to park his bike in her garden along with many other kids. Nowadays you'd probably be charged a fiver!

Was it only a penny? Mind you, admission then would have been about a shilling for grown ups. Imagine that - FIVE PENCE to watch the Reds. And for that you could feast your eyes on the likes of Tony Leighton and a centre half a bit like young Cowgill. Eric Winstanley!!

It's about 12 miles for me and I've done it twice from Sheffield, there and back, both times on Boxing Day (not twice on the same one obviously) as there are no trains and buses.

We didn't win either game but both times I lost the weight I'd put on on the respective days before.

Anyone thinking of doing likewise should use the Trans-Pennine to Oxspring coming and go back via Birdwell and Grenoside. Do not go Hoyland to Chapeltown as if the lack of street lighting doesn't kill you the hills will.

I've cycled several times from Sheffield (and back), and a bike store would have been brilliant, (although a shower facility would have been better). I can't imagine secure bike parking would be that expensive though. To be honest, they could let people leave bikes in the corner between the East Stand and Away end and they'd be secure.

Well maybe more than one house did it but my only memory is of the end house right next to where the burger van is now. The yard used to be full of bikes - well there were a few! I can just about picture an old man standing by the gate on match days and "checking them in". I never knew how secure it was but I suppose it must have been ok because he kept on doing it.

That's probably the one. Spoken to my dad this evening about it. Across road from bottom of Oakwell Lane.

I keep thinking about it. But just looked at the details, and 72 miles each way is a bit much. I could do it one way and stay at my sisters and cycle back the next day, but it wouldn't be a regular thing. Swmbo probably wouldn't be too happy about it either.
