I know playing long ball/direct football is no more guaranteed to succeed than 'good football', but when people are giving their thoughts on managers they'd like, it's interesting to see the difference in views. Personally, I, probably like most people, would prefer us to play lovely slick, attacking football and cut through teams with pace and precision than playing hoofball. However, I'd be happier as a Stoke fan than a West Brom one. I've gotta be honest, I'm more bothered that we win a game than how we play. I'd take a boring 1-0 win every week. So should the managerial job become available, or at least when it does, would we be better going for a Robins/Adkins figure, or someone like Boothroyd? I wouldn't mind seeing a Barnsley team full of 6 footers who muscle people off the ball all the time, win tackles, score headers, and from corners, long throws etc...
I think Donny have proved you can still play football and win games in this division. Bottom of the league at Christmas, became a bit more direct, but still play a lot of football and since then they've had promotion winning form, something like 40 points from 21 games I believe. Credit where credits due.

How about pterry football with an end product Like we got under Clarke Hunter Wilson and to an extent Ritchie even Harry Basset had us playing some decent stuff I dont ever remeber a sucessful direct Barnsley side - its not our way
I agree But I think we need to be stronger and be able to 'mix it' a little bit more. Like I say my preference would be what you say.
Teams get promoted from this league by being Tough Stoke, Birmigham, Wolves and dare I say Sheff Utd. All teams who arent scared to get stuck in and are more physical/tougher than most other teams. I know they also play good football but i think the championship is such a hard league to get out of most teams chasing promotion just go for it.
RE: Teams get promoted from this league by being Tough Hull and West Brom played good football last season (yes I know you're going to say they're both coming back down). Burnley, Preston, Cardiff and Reading all play it on the floor too (from what I've seen), and they could be going up still. But, I agree we've got to mix it up a bit more to get a bit of success. We've tried the long ball game at times and we just don't seem to pull it off, maybe because we were aiming for Mifsud at the time.
A win would be nice However it came about.
Goals too, maybe more than 1 every other game.
The moon on a stick as well.

RE: Teams get promoted from this league by being Tough - Sheffield United ...........Power Play.........as the Burnley players and manager said, playing Sheffield United is like being in the land of the giants And people still ask why the ugly dwaarf cant get in the side (dunno) Simple.............its because he is a DWAARF...............(being ugly dont help either) I would much rather see a Donny and Swansea style of football, but in the Championship you need to have a few big lads, and other than Moore we aint got anybody If I was to choose any player out of the Championship to join Barnsley it would be Henderson (Sheffield United).
I feel happier leaving a game when we've played badly and won Than if we've played some brilliant exciting football and drawn 3-3. Not everyone feels like that though. Entertainment for me is seeing us score at least one more goal than the opposition, however's it's achieved.
Wehere we are at the minute - ie floundering under Simon Davey And he looks to be unable to make things better, I'd settle for a season of grinding out wins, and there being nothing to play for from Febuary onwards.
From that base you can start adding a 'flair player' here and there, nice steady evolving of the team.
At the minute it's a f.cking firesale every summer and trying to build a new team every year with the same crap results.

After the last three seasons.... ... I would rather see us winning, no matter how bad it is. Let's get a bit of success, then try making it pretty.
RE: I feel happier leaving a game when we've played badly and won I would also prefer to see us win ugly rather than lose or draw playing "pretty" football. Ideally I would like to be entertained but I believe most supporters get the most amount of satisfaction from seeing their team win. But I would take a draw on Sunday right now!
We'll be fine when Howard's replacement Diego gets back. Him and El Haimour will terrify the likes of Henderson and Morgan.
