Narrowly stay in the Championship, only to face another season of misery next year. Or Get relegated (let’s face it, that’s what will happen), but storm League One again the year after?
It's no good being in the championship if this is all we can expect. If this continues and we go down, I'll be relieved.
Option b. I just want to go to football and enjoy it. I only want to stay in this division when we have a fighting chance of competing and thriving in it.
I once got slagged off on here for saying this, but I honestly don't care what division we are in. I definitely have zero interest in being in the Premiership. Even the Championship is just another league to me. There's no doubt that it is a way better standard than league 1, but its not that good that I marvel at it every weekend. all I really want is a team that I can identify with. One which tries to promote the things I like to see. Attacking football with effort and an affinity to the town & the fans. The times I have really enjoyed being a red all had that. Glavin era, Hecky's team & last year under Stendel.
If we narrowly stay in the Championship from where we are now then I'd be quite optimistic for next year given that we need to be about ten points better than a bunch of other teams over the remaining 60% of the season! (Obviously that's not factoring in the fact that the main players responsible for any turnaround would then be sold in the summer and 95% of the paltry proceeds spent on foetuses).
I enjoyed last year but I want to be in the championship with a chance of going up to the Premiership no matter how slight. What will be will be . I'm looking forward to watching to see how our new head coach has them playing on Saturday. Just wish this season had started differently.
Who’s to say that we’d storm league 1? Woodrow will be gone, so we’ll need a teenager to fit that position. Who’s to say that relegation could trigger the free fall of the club?
Maybe I'm getting a bit old and weary. The Prem is all about money, the football (good though it is) is secondary. The Championship is now going the same way. Nobody cares if the fans of Club X have to travel a million miles to get to a 12.30 Sunday fixture, and the kick-off time has been re-arranged at the last minute, just so long as it pulls in the TV audience. Wages and ticket prices are sky high. Money, money, bloody money. I'm sick of it. Take me back to L1 please. Maybe I'd feel different if we were competing, but all we ever seem to do at this level is struggle, even with older, better players. If we can't consolidate as a solid Championship club, what's the point. Stay in L1, avoid the international breaks, watch games on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and have less stress and frustration.
The problem is, we are set up to do this yoyo thing and as fans we are expected to put up with it. It's a bit like being slapped across the face, it's lovely when it stops.
Championship. Based on history it’s our natural home and we at least get some media coverage. Drop back down and get the Checkatrade, international break fixtures and 15-second highlights vs Fleetwood? No thanks.
The length of contracts the players have signed, the strategy of buying young players to improve and the owners saying they are in it for the long term shows that if we go down the plan goes back another year with more players in and out. If we stay up the plan stays on track with less need to sell and hopefully improvement follows that. So either way I'm OK as I think we are strong enough to bounce straight back even without Woodrow and Mowatt.
Definitely staying in this league. Better standard of football on display, better players, bigger attendances and more derbies. League one was dire in comparison. Think the board took all the above for granted when they finished their recruitment in the summer
I'd like us to stay up of course, but starting in January I'd like the owners to prove to me that their main objective is to try to win football matches.
Id like us to stay up. If by some miracle we manage it we will have had an enjoyable second half of the season wining quite a few games. I dont see it happening mind. Absolutely no guarantees we will come straight back if we go down - look at Sunderland and Burton who went down with us last time. And also how long were the Blunts stuck down there.
Love to stay up and interested to see what this new manager brings, I’ve become a bit apathetic since Daniel went I must admit. I’m really hoping that we can have a better second half. I really fear for us if we drop down into league 1, I think as a reflection of the lack of support for the board many loyal fans won’t renew which will affect finances in respect of wages and transfers. Slippery slope for the club if we go down this time I can see us staying down.
They should be quite good at wriggling through on the blind side, plus they have explosive pace at times. Not sure whether they can do a full 90 minutes though.
Would have no problem getting donors though, the world’s full of w***ers..... Unfortunately we’ll be voting for some of them next month.
