I personally feel that would be a great achievement. We have a tough start (no one has an easy one) and to get at least 15 points from the first 10 games would be admirable. Thoughts?
Will we have 15 points by Christmas ? 15 points from those first 10 games would suggest to me a tilt at the play-offs when everyone is fit.
Of course I would take 15 points. If we take 15 points from 10 games that will give us a total of 69 which is better than last year and would have been good enough for a 8 or 9th place last season.
I think 7 points each month is a realistic target, because some monts we will get more and some less. So we should finish with about 60 points
I would too. However, it doesn't necessarily mean we will get 69...but it would be a good platform to build on.
I would love 15. *IF* we stop pissing about with 352, and stick to a solid 442, playing to our strengths until we can get da silva back, then hopefully about 13 points. On target to get 60 and no squeaky bum time in the last month.
I agree. It looks a really tough opening with the division favourites away; a bogey team with a new strike force at home; a strong former premiership team away and another one at home. However - these things can get turned on their heads in early season. What if QPR flatter to deceive and find their are under the pressure of high expectation from the start and play badly against us with an experimental team; what if Coventry take time to gel under a new manager and with some new players; what if Birmingham don't start the season at all well under a manager who doesn't know the Championship and the fans start barracking the directors; what if Derby find that their morale is blown and they cannot just pick themselves off the premiership floor as easily as that (remember our first games back in the Championship after relegation in 1998). I think it would be reasonable to target six points from those first four games as minimum, but difficult. I think the issue for us is how well is this team motivated for the coming season? Is there an attitude of "We are good enough. What we did in the cup, we must do in the league, week-in and week-out." If there is, then we could have a good season. I have this feeling that this will be a defining season for Barnsley FC and, more specifically, for Davey's managerial career. If we do well, Davey could well be into the premiership as a young manager with a future. If he does just ok, it will be contract renewal talk at Oakwell. If the team finds itself in a relegation battle, will it be "step forwards Andy Johnson" as the next manager? If Davey has got the lads motivated, I think the middle course is what will happen and we could push close to a play-off place. My concern in pre-season has more to do with levels of motivation amongst the squad. Can they raise the game on Saturday? I hope that we will be in for a treat this season. With everyone fit, we are an established Championship team, who should give a game to anyone.
I know. It was just as an example if we continued to take 15 points from each block of 10 games through out the season...
We need around 1.1 points per game to stay up for the pedants this is 11 points from 10.... so 15 points from the first ten games would be great, cant see it though....
RE: where did you spring from?!? been to Krakow last week-excellent place-you still in St Petersburg?? if soare you coming over for any matches?
and the stat is "true"!
no team since the division went to 24 teams has been relegated after getting 8 from the first 5-trust me I'm a statistician !!!!

RE: where did you spring from?!? Even Millwall?!? Yep, still in St P, coming over for the Derby game in a couple of weeks. Was so excited until about a fortnight ago, and now am very very depressed! How's Krakow? I've heard that the Poles despise the Brits due to the amount of destructive stag parties that land up there.
RE: where did you spring from?!? only saw a couple of t shirted stag parties-not too loud really-maybe we avoided their bars!! Poles generally very friendly lot
oh and you were right Millwall got 13 from first 5 games-my brain must be addled from all the Polish beer! it's not far from the truth though!!
