That brought back a few memories. Can't remember an atmosphere like that since Wilson was in charge. Togetherness. What a performance. Each one of them. Don't really want to single anyone out but it was an absolute masterclass from Chris ogrady. Let's just hope we can keep this team and manager together. You reds.
Surprosed no one else commented on this - what a performance and what an atmosphere in the ground Chelsea cup game apart I think youi are right I cant remember that sort of atmosphere at a league game for a long long time. I think if we stay up we have a chance of keeping them together but we need to win at Huddersfield or I think we are down - perform like that again and we have a good chance of doing it
It's a shame those running the club are incapable of coming out and committing to Flicker regardless of which division we are in next season. Finance aside, there is nothing stopping the club from delcaring their intention to try and keep Flicker regardless of division or budget.
The thing that is quite disconcerting (well very, really) is that, even after a performance, atmosphere and result like that, which climbs us out of the bottom 3, 2 hours later we are back in it because another team around us won, yet again!. It like bloody quicksand down there, it feels sometimes that is impossible to climb out of it.
I completely agree Mike. We were prepared to trust Butcher with a contract and biggest wage in our history yet after a turnaround of almost unthinkable proportions we still seem to be delaying getting Flicker and his team signed up. I hope this apparent dithering doesn't cost us the best manager we've had in years.
My guess is it will have been agreed already..and just waiting to get the business end of the season out of the way first....it is unthinkable that any other outcome could even be considered..even with the Don
Just that. Even our "board" is not stupid enough to dispense with the services of our most popular manager for over a decade.
Sign up Flicker, Mellon and Scott this week on 3 year contracts, would be a massive boost going into our biggest game for 7 years. And no, it doesn't matter what division we end up in, x wage for Champ, y wage for L1. don't expect our genius board to think of this tho, they even got outfoxed by a bunch of small kids at the end of yesterday's match. Again. It's enough to drive you to the ponty end bar, oh hang on......
Maybe they're planning to do this, but in the mean time don't want to distract anyone from the small matter of avoiding relegation next week? Understandable if so, imagine how it could look to some if they made an announcement this week and then we lost on Saturday. Especially bearing in mind how quickly a lot of our supporters look to blame the club if things do go wrong.
Really good atmosphere. Not often the Ponty stands up all game. I really expected the Hull fans to out sing us today but there was no contest. Got to give credit to the players for that, they hardly gave them a sniff all game.
Really good idea mate but I doubt that we would be able to negotiate 3 contracts in a week unless MM, MS and Flicker would agree to extend their existing terms for a longer period.
I can't believe that nothing has been prepared yet. Surely everything must be in place for the end of the season whatever happens. Having said that I still think we should wait until the season has finished before putting any offers on the table.
Of course things are in place for the end of the season, Rowing has said as much, lets see what happens before we rush to criticise the club for the sake of it.
think flickers in it for the long haul but will mellon and scott want to be coaches long term ? or will they want to look back to getting into management this summer ?
Could it be that they are stalling over offering any new deals thinking that a takeover could be on the cards? Don keeps saying that he's confident it will happen, and you know what it's like when new owners come in - they always want to bring their own manager and coaching staff in. Having to pay off the current staff could scupper any sale even though they would be mad to destroy what we have at the moment.
That's something that has crossed my mind, though I hope not as I think they're an integral part of the team.
I don't know anything about Mellon and Scott's personality and what their ambitions are, but if I was them and we stay in the Championship I'd stay at Barnsley. The management jobs open to them are going to be low end League 2/Conference - I can't see them being able to earn any more money doing that, although I realise it's not always about money. It's impossible to know but I wonder how much of the credit they are due with how we have played in 2013? Afterall, Flicker was here in 2012 when we were absolutely garbage for a whole year.
Flicker has got some brilliant performances out of the players wanting him to be manager maybe if he tells them he,s got job he's afraid they might let up a bit . Just a thought
