Thought we rode our luck at times at oakwell against them 2nd half tbf. We was unlucky not to get at least a point at there place. Watched them against other teams a few times though and they've looked gash.
Strong at home, plus an awful lot of injury time seems to get added on when they're not winning. Really wouldn't want to get them in the playoffs, not because I think they're better than us, but because I would fully expect us to be on the wrong end of every key refereeing decision going. I can see it now. Last minute at Wembley, Wrexham launch a long throw into the box. It appears to go straight into the net, but the VAR snickometer rules that it brushed one of Stephen Fletcher's man buns on the way through. Cue delirium in the Sky studio as the "fairytale" comes true.
I couldn’t stop watching reruns of the build up to Phillips goal the other week. Watters made a right pillock of their big beardy bloke, who fell over. He then got up and casually ran back to help his defence, only to be put back on his arse by Phillips before sticking it in the top corner. Think same bloke gave penalty away tonight. Just watch him here. Real Sunday morning stuff.
What an evil face McClean showed when he got booked and then he turned back to the ref to give a bit more dissent. It has got way beyond the time when the referees union should be clamping down on this awful footballer. He should be sent off every other game. That might cure him.
Yeah, table doesn’t lie. I thought they were a lot better against us at Oakwell than at theirs, but I think they’re all about the experience in the team. I don’t see a lot of pace with the ball in their team, but they have clever players who pass the ball well and can pick out runners. They can move you around a fair bit. Other than that, they’ve been riding on a wave of success. Can they cope with a bit of adversity, or will they just flash some cash?
It's momentum, their form away from home is average. Late late goals at home have saved them, personally don't think it'll last, but perhaps they've already done enough just to squeeze into play offs come end of season. They'll need to bring loads of players in regardless of league imo very soon.
Parkinson has them set up excellently and to say they’ve got a few quid I think their recruitment is excellent. They’ve not thrown money at transfer fees but guess the wage bill may be high. signing old heads in this league is a smart move especially up front. No idea what he’s on but Fletcher was / is a superb signing. Would love to see him in our team.Matty James? As we know, class. Rathbone also a very shrewd signing. I thought they were average at home to us but looked very good at Oakwell. Would make an excellent play off match up, dare I say it…..!
Excellently is a bit of a stretch imo mate, but each to their own. Just very efficient which I suppose could be deemed excellent if he manages to get them over line. No issues at all with their experienced heads, but as I say it'll mean having a big turn over the coming years and a lot will depend on which league they're in. I imagine their wages have sky rocketed, or maybe the adoration for playing for Wrexham now just means they get them on cheaper wages and a chance to be in a ryan Reynolds film... Dont rate Parkinson, I think he dropped on though. When they're able to buy league one quality players in non league it was always going to make his job easier. I still think they will drop off, into patchy form. They're sturdy, compact and very hard working though so can beat anyone on their day!
Only thing is if they don't go up soon fletcher, james ,McLean etc will be no good. They don't need to sign players with resale value as there owner will just throw more money at it.
I can’t see them sustaining their first half of the season form, I think they will drop off massively, they have too many old has beens. They will go up eventually no doubt, just not this season.
I totally agree with this and what @Tyke The Tree-Frog says about having a rebuild. I just think that going for experience at this level (and L2) is quite a smart strategy. Quite often if you look at the top scorer charts, they are old hands who played in the championship. I do think we would benefit from someone of Fletchers ilk. Equally , not signing Lee Gregory was a mistake. He’s exactly the sort of player we should have signed in my humble opinion…..! If only for the young lads to learn and get 60 minutes a game. I also think Billy Sharpe would’ve been a good signing
We would need to win by at least 2 goals at Oakwell - we've never beaten them in Wrexham and only drawn about 4 times.
