True, I didn't see the game. I'm also prepared to give him a chance next season. But from what I saw last year, and from what was said on tonight (albeit poor) commentary, he'll struggle next year.
Needs to contribute more than sweat and good intentions.

There is something there Dave, he works really hard and unsettles defenders.

What he needs is a goal or two, he's obviously low on confidence but I have a feeling that if he gets going we might just have a player.

What won't help is people getting on his back, that's the last thing he needs to boost his confidence.

your comment isn't what I was getting at...

Basically, I don't disagree with your comment, because I agree that he can be usefull, put him self about etc.

but when all is said and done, he is supposed to be a striker, and striking isn't what he is achieving.

its nice to run around looking nice playing good football etc, thats the bonus bit, but I remember a saying once, that we don't hear to much of now...

    "look in 't green'un"

unfortunately, he isn't hitting the onion bag, but I am willing to let him have a bash, but we are at a point where we can't have the luxury of waiting half the season for him to explode, by then we may have too much to catch up on.

    RE: yes exactly mate!

He looked to be the only striker tonight that was ever going to score and in fact was probably about to when he was brought down in the box

If Emile Heskey is worth £5.5m then Tommy Wright deserves a fair chance

RE: your comment isn't what I was getting at...

Whilst I agree that strikers should score goals - and are judged by the number of goals that they get - we did well last season without any of the strikers having a prolific score rate. They nevertheless contributed to the overall team effort - and I feel that Hayes, Richards and Wright will do so again this season. Undoubtedly a new stiker who can get 15 plus goals as well will considerably help our cause. However I feel that all the strikers that we have will make a contribution this season given the chance

    RE: ok!

we need a goal scorer nothing wrong with the other front men they do there job. we need another goal scorer the only one we have is nardiello and he is patchy at best.
