With reference to a separate thread, I thought I'd just share a conclusion a friend of mine came to the day after we'd lost 3-0 at home to Wednesday on the first day of the 1979-80 season. "...that Glavin is a pig in a poke..." He meant he was cr*p. I've reminded him of that conversation several times over the years.
The list of players that have been cr*p on debut and gone on to be decent/good players is just as long as the ones that have looked like world beaters on debut and then gone on to be cr*p. Nobody (not even a BBSer!) can 100% judge a player on 1 match.
