This Friday 29th of July Myself and Gaz Lovett (Cunning Stunt) from West Stand Bogs are venturing down to visit Rev Tiverton Preedy's grave. We will be doing some maintenance on the plot as part of Gaz's new business 'Barnsley Memorial Care' www.barnsleymemorialcare.com

We will be writing the trip up as an article which will either go into WSB or the club programme.

There are a couple of spaces left in the car if anybody wishes to come along. The only cost is to split the diesel...which will be about £60 there and back.
We'll be setting off early morning from Oakwell.
Only sound lads or lasses need apply :)
Drop either of us a message, cheers.

    Great effort.

Interesting listening to Cryne's response about never moving from Oakwell and recognising the hard work that Tiv went to with local land owners back in the 1800's to secure the football club a ground to play on but the only remnant we have of this man is his old desk and a bit of memorabilia in the board room. Over the years we have won the FA Cup, been runners up in a FA Cup final, played in the top flight, been to Wembley three times, Play off final at the Millennium, produced a football team that's brought thousands of visitors and money to the town from all corners of the country yet there's hardly anything there to honour him.

In the town we have a statue of a cricket umpire. Baffling and that's not knocking Dickie.

It shouldn't need much work. I did it 18 months ago, which was about the same as it had been left previously. I cleaned the moss away but decided to leave the algae except where it obscured any inscription. I'm not one for making old graves too prisitine, mainly it's a cutting back job, to keep it visible for searching pilgrims. Clippers and secateurs will do, oh and gardening gloves (ouch!). There is a tap and green waste tip close by. Have a good trip. :D

I've got a map of the cemetery if you want any help finding the plot. Its a fair walk from any of the gates and there is a minibus that drives around the place droping people off but that may only run on Sundays.

If so, you need to be questioning the diesel bill.

    Oakwell to Barnsley, £60.

Good on you lads. Will you post some pictures once the work is done?

Seriously think that Barnsley should honour him in some way as his work has led to many successes for the town and on a personal level some of the best days I've had. Wouldn't it be great to start a fund for a statue of him for outside Oakwell as a tribute to the founder of BFC?
