Just watched the football league show. I thought it was excellent coverage. It wasn't about a long highlights package, it was about telling the relegation story of the day and I reckon they did a sterling job. Often that show is rightly subject to criticism, but today they put together a good package. First time I've seen any of the match as I didn't get a ticket. Quality goal from O'Grady. However, Wiseman and Cranie who have been fantastic in recent weeks looked to have a bit of a mare at the back. No harm done though.
I thought the football league show's coverage was terrible. They showed the promotion chase in a 'as it happened' style cutting back and forth between the games but when it came to the relegation battle they showed us first without revealing the result at peterborough, then showed peterborough and confirmed they were relegated and we'd stayed up and then bizarrely showed sheffield wednesday and millwalls games when they had just taken all the drama out of it by revealing who had gone down. Quite why they felt the need to use at least 3 different styles to show the two ends of the table I'll never know.
You can't do an as it happens, cutting back and forth, when there are 4 matches involved and 5 teams that can be relegated. It would be far too confusing. I thought it worked really well.
I thought they missed an opportunity The ridiculous drama of the whole day didn't really come across. A shot of the fans slowly (it was VERY slowly) finding out the palace score would have been brilliant
