its almost time to go out and get the xmas pressies, im stumped at the mo, PS2 was adored in this house so was instinctivly going for the ps3 but have just seen the price tag of the 360, much more favourable and it seems they both have similar range of games.anyone played them both - which is best? (dunno)
as much as i like ps3 not enough games. Tesco doing x box at at about £140 only for a week tho I think it was.
cheers, unanimous so far looks like the 360 then! just gotta find a way to set it up without the kids finding out - theres no way i can wait til xmas to play gta and fifa 09!
There really is no choice. 360. Sony have fought a losing battle with the PS3 from the off. MS stole a march on them with the early release of the 360 and in the race to catch up, Sony managed to completely alienate their huge gaming fanbase. Machines that didn't do what they'd said (backward compatibility), smaller HD than advertised, wayyyyy too pricey and not a grade-A game title to be seen. Even now, they haven't produced a genuinely unique, must-have game. Multi-platform games routinely look and play better on the 360, and that's without the titles unique to the machine! Only plus-point I can see is that it won't be too long before the PS3 goes out of production and prices start to plummet. Might be a cheap way of getting a Blu-ray player.
Thought GTA was brilliant!!!! They are releasing an expansion pack that you can download off xbox live with more missions, weapons etc. Got fifa ordered off game, hopefully will come on friday. Also gettin Fable 2 when that comes out
360 without a doubt and I stupidly have both. I’ve compared Call of Duty 4 on both and the 360 wins hands down. The PS3 is not more powerful in how it works and users up three times more power to run than the 360. That is where the more power comes in. Also when you download a demo on the PS3 which takes ages and is an awful system compared to X-Box Live then you have to install the game which again takes more time. Also Gears of War 2 will be worth buying the 360 for alone. I’m going to be trading in the PS3 for a Wii I think as I only have Resistance Fall of Man for it and its aweful. Like other people have posted, multiple console games are better, more fluid and look better of the 360. Also Forza Motorsport on the 360 is better than Gran Turismo on the PS3 if you go for that sort of thing. The PS3 is not more reliable. I am on my 2nd PS3 inside 6 months and have had the same 360 for around 2 years now.
You are in the minority that thinks the PS3 is LESS reliable than the 360. I know 9 people who own 360's and 6 of them are either on their 2nd machines or had their original ones sent back. It's also proven that the PS3 is more powerful than the 360 - nothing to do with actual power.
In all honesty it depends what you want the machine for. For me it's ps3 all the way but that's becasue I wanted a machine that would do everything I wanted it to do without having to buy loads of other add ons. I agree that the Xbox still has the pick of the games but the times are starting to change on that front andf I firmly beleive it's only a matter of time before the PS3 has a games library to rival the Xbox. If all you want is a games console then the Xbox is probably the right one for you. But if you want a future proof machine with a Sh*t hot blueray player that is constantly being upgraded for no additional expence, go for the PS3. I now have the PS networked to my PC from which I stream all my movies and music. I'm sure the Xbox can do this but as far as I'm aware it can't accomodate BlueRay, AVI or DIVX files without additional software and/or hardware which have to be bought separately.
2 Pointless ways of saying something is better.
first 10 people all say 360, says it all.
£140 for a console with better games and better online play, thats all you want. Peoples **** up because they dont keep em well ventelated, ive had mine 2 yer no problems yet, got 1 of them fans on back.
£40 a year, xbox live...so what... the PS3 is twice as much as 360, so buy time you have paid about 4 years suscripton, you might have come to the price ofa PS3.

Sadly the future has passed the PS3 by. Far from being '****-hot', the Bluray player is average at best. Stand alone players at a fraction of the price regularly outperform it, I'm afraid. In itself a decent machine, just disastrously handled by Sony. They've missed the boat on this current generation of machines.
