What's everyones preference between the two? Getting one around christmas but not sure which to get. Any advice? Also has anyone seen any good deals round and about while looking for Christmas presents?

I think I saw an offer at ASDA for an elite 360, extra controller and 4 games for £197 but can't seem to find it on net anymore.

well if your going for cheapest go for 360, but iv had both and personally i think ps3 is just abit better due to blue ray graphics and online play, but 360 graphics and online play are great too except for you have to pay online for 360 i know it isnt that much anymore like £16 for a years gold membership, 360s can get overheated alot and causes the RROD red ring of death but it that only when its overheating as they fixed the 360 for breaking as often...enough of my blabbering lol its up to you mate :D

BTW I love my PS3 but for online gameplay I prefer the 360. Altho as Adam says, at least the PS3 is free to play online. Great if you're a casual online gamer.

Thanks for that, I think I would be a casual online gamer so that was swaying me to the PS3. As for the link, for an extra fiver I can get the same with FIFA 10 or COD:MW2 off play.com.

Have any of you seen the offer at asda I mentioned in the previos post?

I saw it last week. The games were Lego Batman, Pure, Forza 3 and NFS i think, but not sure i the deal is on any more. I thought about it, but in the end i went for Lego Batman , Pure + extra controller for £170 (£180 but £10 voucher back for future spend) from Argos - but that deals changed now. Figured my son would rather spend the £27 on a game he wanted rather than Forza and NFS. Reckon the deals will change weekly, so hold out until they offer the games you want !

360 for me - far cheaper and has better games - gears of war 1 and 2 take some beating. Yes live does cost but is far better - remember ps3 owners defence of the high price if the original console was you get what you pay for - the same principal applies to xbox live.

i'm for the 360, again cheaper and does what it's mean't to do, PS3 great if you are into films and want Blue Ray DVD's but they cost more, and i can't justify it

That offer I posted you mate you could have any 3 games, an extra controller, plus the 360 Elite for £194 - you could get COD MW2, Fifa 10 and Forza 3 if you liked, the 3 biggest games! Plus when you get Fifa 10 there is also a free football. It really is the best 360 deal available. Special Offer 1 is the deal you need.

After all that though i think hardware-wise the PS3 is the better piece of kit.

Ask yourself if you really need a BluRay player? Do you currently buy your movies on DVD? If you don't, are you going to start 'buying' movies on BluRay?

Games wise, they're about the same. PS3 seems to be better build quality, with the Xbox having a bad rep in the past due to the RROD but thats suppose to all be sorted now. The Xbox is also noisy if playing games from the disc, so your better with a HDD (60gig min) and install your games on that.

Myself, I have Xbox 360 for games and a Popcorn box with 1TB storage for my HD movies (which I download).

Xbox Live is where it's at though on the 360, couldn't do without it - You litrally do get what you pay for. The PS3 live version is Free (say no more).

New feature on latest Xbox update, is that you can watch Sky on it. I don't subscribe to Sky but my parents do, so I've linked their account to my Xbox and can access 1000+ movies on demand for Free. If they had Sky Sports, I'd could watch that too.

RE: PS3 by a country mile

And for the price of a PS3, you can get an XBOX 360 and a better, stand-alone blu-ray player. If the PS3 goes tits-up, you lose your gaming and blu-ray watching. Mind you, the PS3 has got all those exclusive, top-notch games titles, like, erm...., no, hang on....er.....

heres some (unbias) notes for you:

    - the 360 HDD is now a standard 120GB, enough to store plenty on. the PS3 has a 120 or 250GB HDD. now, you can install games to your 360 so it doesn't scratch/break discs, and it runs silently and cooly. the PS3 has all this HDD space and you can only install a small percentage of games

    - both consoles can have hardware issues (360 has the RROD, PS3 has the Yellow Light). both consoles can turn into radiators at times so keep in a cool place

    - Live is 40 quid per year, PSN is free. Live is a set of dedicated servers supported 24/7 by MS with brilliant speeds. PSN is hosted by 3rd party servers and can regularly go tits up (take MW2 last night, for example, it went down, no one could play)

    - 360 can play DVD's, PS3 plays blu-rays. so PS3 wins in this department if you actually play them.

    - the game library is practically the same, the difference is most PS3-unique titles are JRPG's or the like, something that doesn't do it for me.

    - games that are available on both consoles (COD, Fifa, etc) are designed and built for the 360, then ported to the PS3 because its easier to make games using MS software. its noticeable, i have MW2 and Fifa for both consoles and the online and single player run so much more smoothly on the 360

    - PS3 has exclusives like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, Little Big Planet and Gran Turismo. 360 has Halo, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Forza etc. (all of which are very good games btw). also, games are generally cheaper on the 360.

    - although confusing at first, the 360 controller is solid and laid out well. the PS3 controller feels like its going to snap IMO, i've already broke the R2 button

don't get me wrong, the PS3 is ok, but just ok. for the price of a PS3 and a few games (£280~) you can get a 360, 3 games, 2 controllers, headset and 2 years of Live. im keeping my PS3 to play the exclusives and incase my 360 decides to keel over, but in all honesty, there is only one winner. now, if that doesn't make your mind up, i don't know what will.

    no fanyboys please. thanks.

I couldn't believe these jokers. A few months ago my PS3 bricked it. I wanted to know if there was a cheap way of fixing it so I went on a PS3 forum. Seems likes a good idea, dunt it?

Nope. All I got was abuse claiming I was an XBox owning so and so (insert whatever foul language you want here) who was trying to make the PS3 out to be bad. Why the chuff do these moronic kids think supporting a multinational company is something you should do to the point of being abusive? I couldn't give a fig about Microsoft OR Sony. In my opinion, they're both taking the peace by putting ridiculous markups on all games sold for their consoles. Which is the reason I now recommend PC gaming.
