Anyone had this in the past few weeks?

I've just bought Fifa 10. Put into my Xbox and was greeted with a message saying that I would need to update my Xbox to play the game. Fair enough. The update carried through, and I was greeted with the new Xbox Experience desktop etc. Around 5 minutes into playing Fifa, my Xbox just froze up. The screen went all funny, and I couldn't do anything.

I restarted it, and got three red lights on the front. I've also noticed that there is an orange light on the power supply unit.

Any ideas? Looks to me like the power supply might have gone, but I'm a little dubious seen as though it's been fine for ages, then all of a sudden, this 'update' comes along, and blam. Gone.

    Anyone else had this?

    Cheers

i have updated the console with no problems. seems like an old update tbh as i am sure i did mine months ago. Sounds like 3 rings of death. there should be a code on the screen when it starts up to let u know what the problem is.

To be fair, I've not bought a new game for the best part of 12 month.

So it may be that the update only just kicked in because of the new game.

I think it's the power supply. I'll look for that code.

It's not the power supply. It looks like it's the console.

Anyone know what the procedure is for getting these fixed?

I've had it just over two years now.

    Cheers.

    2 ways

microsoft will fix it for you, just call em. Or get it done independantly for around £40 - whils you are getting it done you could also get it "flashed" so it will play "back up" games

be careful if you get it flashed as if you play online they will ban you.

Yep - I got banned. Well the console did anyway! If its only 2 years old, get on the microsoft website and get it fixed for nowt. It goes off to Germany and back in a week and usually comes with 1 months free xbox live. Otherwise, a lad on here will fix it for next to nowt. I'd go with the Microsoft option though as its within the extended warranty. Having a flashed xbox is great for the cheap 'backup' copies, but being banned from Live isnt much fun.

    Not true

as long as the games are stealth patched then they are ok. You can get software on your PC to tell you if they are patched or not

Cheers guys. I rang Microsoft up.

It's being collected in 3-4 days. And they said it will take betweeb 14-21 days to repair/return.

They did mention the months free Live subscription too.
