Woman at work wants to connect to x box live - wireless router is downstairs(XBOX upstairs)but would rather not pay another £50 for wireless adaptor . Is there any other way she can connect via phone line - LAN cable. Any help would greatly be appreciated (Y)

no not that i have found. best option is move the router upstairs and use cable for xbox and get a wireless card for whatever is downstairs and attached to the router now. that will be cheaper than the xbox wireless card.

But they're £40 a pair (Amazon) if that's too much. Uses the mains wiring in your house to carry the broadband signal. Far more stable than the official wireless adaptor.

You can get the wireless adaptor from game for 35 notes if you buy anything else.

Saves a lot of faffing about?

I agree with Micky Finn. Ethernet over Power adapters are the way forward.
