Can anyone tell me why when I boot up my machine firewall is switched off and I've got to manually turn it on again. I've got zone alarm installed as well so I dunt know if its that. Much obliged.
Start>contol panel> Windows Firewall. Turn it off or on from there. I've always had Zonealarm installed since years, never had a problem.Says my windows firewall is off, rather trust zonealarm. Don't worry mate. If you're that bothered, test your firewall against some of these sites. https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 http://scan.sygate.com/ Used to be an excellent site at http://www.thecaretaker.org.uk/ with lots of links but looks to have gone.
Trying to use two firewalls is inadvisable, they will conflict with each other, installing Zone Alarm will 'switch off' XP's firewall, by default .... best bet is to choose which one you're going to use (I'd recommend Zone Alarm) and shut down the other.

Don't use it! If you're behind a router with hardware firewall it's OK but if you connect directly PC -> modem -> web, it'll last half an hour if you're lucky before it gets remotely disabled by malware. Stick to a proper one. Sunbelt Kerio or Zone Alarm are miles better.
RE: Don't use it! Yep .... I use it ..... had no probs.
Also, I'd recommend using the free version of AVG anti-virus, as well.
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/vnunet/downloads/2129071/avg-antivirus-free-edition
and this ......
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/vnunet/downloads/2128934/ad-aware-se-personal-edition-05

Ah no It was in reply to your original post re Windows firewall. NEVER rely on this as your defence, it's rubbish. (Tip - try viewing the board in threaded rather than flat mode and see how you get on with it. It makes it easier to work out who is replying to what)
RE: Ah no Basically, don't bother with Windows Firewall, only use Zone Alarm (and not Zone Alarm Pro which you have to buy) then?
