REDS manager Andy Ritchie looked back at Saturday's opening pre-season success at Bideford.

Goals from Daniel Nardiello, Paul Hayes, Robbie Williams and a disputed strike from youngster Nathan Joynes set Barnsley on the road to victory.

Speaking to the Official Webiste, Andy said: "We did ok to be fair even though we looked a little rung rusty.

"Bideford worked hard and gave us a strong test for the fist 50 minutes even though we were a little disappointed to concede a sloppy goal. We should have closed down the cross quicker and Nick Colgan probably should not have punched the ball clear but it was a great volley from the edge of the area.

"We should have had two or three before that.

"Daniel Nardiello opened the scoring for us when he raced onto a long ball before finished well. Robbie Williams got our second with a smashing volley from the edge of the area.

"There is a bit of an inquest going on about the third goal because Nicky Wroe is claiming it went straight in although Nathan Joynes is adamant he got a touch. Paul Hayes got the fourth when he diverted a shot from Neil Austin into the net.

"It was good to see Nardiello and Hayes get on the scoresheet early and it should settle them both down.

"It was a difficult first game and Bideford had only lost 2-1 against Brentford earlier in the week so they were no mugs.

"We did not pick up any injuries although we have a few sore feet because of the hard ground".

    Nick Colgan in Goal

Don't feel so bad about letting one in against a non league side now, but why is he even getting a squad number.

good to see both Nardiello and Hayes have brought their shooting boots.

    Counting the days till swindon.

Flinders was in for the second half

Where we didnt concede a goal due to a goalkeeping error.

If Colgan starts against Swindon I will be seriously p*ssed off. But probably blissfully happy compared to Scott

I wouldn't mind if Colgan starts in goal

He can't be as bad as we've seen so far, he just can't be.

I want Flinders to be our goalkeeper for years to come. Maybe being first choice at such a young age will bring him on in leaps and bounds, but it could also destroy his confidence, so if Colgan does begin the season I won't be too bothered. Flinders will get his chance.

I will mind if he starts in goal....

remember the goals he cost us last season. We have a more than capable alternative in Scott Flinders and he should be number one IMHO

It's good in a way that Ritchie has given Colgan a clean slate but this is the guy that was kept out of a side by Tony Friggin Bullock FFS
