I've been having problems over the weekend with Virgin Broadband

It was off parts of Saturday and Sunday, normally spot on. They have probably been doing maintainence and hopefully doubling my speed.

    Good answer mate

    Ooops!

I have Sky broadband also drops out from time to time - usually have to switch the router off then on again. Speed very variable though and never near the claimed speed.

Still it's cheap only £5 per month so I'm not complaining

Mine did too. Also I noticed that the "online" light on my V+ box was flashing - and still is this morning. I have no idea what flashing indicates, gonna try and find out now.

The online light on my modem was flashing, think something to do with it being unable to connect.

Checked on Virgin Media website this morning and said there was a national problem with some users having internet and TV outages.

  9. National problem with TV outages?

Hm, wonder if that explains the odd behaviour of my V+ box - getting worse just lately. Sometimes records things twice, sometimes not at all; sometimes a recording is on the list, but there is no sound; sometimes forgets to record something even though the planned recordings list shows "record the series". Very good system overall, but frustratingly inconsistent - often have to do a hard reboot to get it working properly.
I changed the box a couple of months ago so it shouldn't be worn out yet

    Mine too.

The "help"line said there were no national or regional faults and there was no-one answering the 25ppm fault line. Maybe there was a fault on the line.

The cable light has to be on. If it's flashing it's searching. nt

RE: National problem with TV outages?

I do a hard reboot (i.e. unplug/plug in) of my Sky+ box about once a month. Not had any major issues, the most recent thing I had though was, occasionally, the series link update just showed as "searching" for the next one, after a couple of days it would find it and always seemed to record ok. I rebooted though and all those that previously had "searching" displayed then had the programme and not had that happen since.
Did have occasional issues with it "freezing" on the menu as well - I find a reboot once a month stops any issues - only the same as if you keep a PC constantly on, occasionally you get things slowing up due to memory not being released.

Good point about the "constantly on" problem. They do recommend (Virgin that is) that you keep the box on all the time, which is what I do. As I said, I think it is a fantastic bit of technology but the inconsistencies are starting to really annoy me. Might be time for box number three to make an appearance

They weren't going to charge it.

Might be as well to check during the call that they accept it was their fault and that the call isn't chargeable..

Also check this site out http://www.saynoto0870.com/You need to use the Search for an alternative number facility in the green bar. You can search by entering the 0870 number (without spaces) or the company name.
