Steve Bruce urged his Birmingham side to bounce back following the 1-0 defeat to Burnley.

Birmingham had a chance to move top with victory at St Andrews but instead slipped out of the automatic promotion places as John Spicer netted a surprise late winner for Burnley.

"I've looked at the results in our league and the Premiership and there are some strange ones at this time of the season," said Bruce.

"There is a nervousness and edginess and we were a victim of that today.

"We didn't have any fluency. You've got to give credit to Burnley for what they did but their goal came from a mistake by us from their only shot on goal.

"The sign of a good team is how they respond to something like this. We've had setbacks this season and got over them.

"It is one of those awful days you have to recover from. If you are going to win titles, it's how you bounce back."

Steve Cotterill paid tribute to his Barnsley side after their second win in a week eased fears of relegation.

"The boys were first class. Their effort, work-rate and passing was very good," he praised.

"It was probably our best result of the season because of where Birmingham are in the table, a side probably heading for the Premier League.

"It took a big effort from our players and all credit to them. We have had that missing link of not being able to score but there hasn't been massive amounts wrong with us."
