decided to take his own life on the A1(M).

Neil up until recently had been my boss at Dearne Valley and decided upon a change of vocation just a couple of months ago. The last time I spoke to him he was full of beans about taking time off to travel the world.

Today and last night has really hit home that life really is too short and that friends and family are so important to each and every one of us.

Neil was always a bit of a loner, someone who kept his feelings to himself, however what he seems to have failed to realise is that he had lots of friends that he could have gone to in his hour of need.

    He will be sorely missed.

He also leaves behind 2 lovely children.

    RIP Neil

    Sorry to hear that.

God only know why he decided to take his life, he may now be at peace but I really feel for his Family (and friends).

    Deepest sympathy for his Family.

    Really sorry to hear that!

a friend of mine had took his life a few months back.... very very sad!

he was living/working in the USA, had a beautiful girlfriend and seemed settled.... I still can't believe it now! How does someone get so low and decide to take such a step? surely what ever was the reason it can't have been so bad.

    hard to understand innit...

but maybe he could no more help it than he could have stopped sneezing if he had a cold. I mean, it is a sickness, like, but yer just can't see the symptoms.

    So sorry to hear that

It needs looking into more carefully. Suicide is the biggest killer of young men under 35 - maybe more resources need to be in place to deal with it - have more people to talk to

it's the emotional wreckage let behind for his family and friendswhere my sympathy lies. The feeling of 'what did we do wrong' 'why didn't we see this happening'. My brother in law's Dad killed himself coming up to three years since it doesn't go away.

Nothing in life is so bad that it can't be sorted.

It's truly tragic when anyone takes their own life.

The family are left for a lifetime wondering where they went wrong and whether or not they could have helped. It's like a lifetime sentence for those left behind.

Sorry to hear that Terry (Nutkins). There's a Story in chron' today about an old mate of mine Jeff Clarke from Hoyland. He got into a scrape, as we've all done in our younger Days (Still do on occasions) But the outcome was

not good for Jeff unfortunately. To cut a sorry tale short. You never forget them Family, mates, and that's how it should be. Just remember the good times you shared together. It's the Family's what we have to feel for , like someone else said in this thread. Its them what I feel for.

    a bit harsh.....

......as to say that he's being selfish assumes that he was in a sound state of mind at the time.

All suicide is selfish when you take it at face value. My cousin, god rest his soul, took his own life nearly four years ago. Looking at the devastation he left behind for my aunt, uncle, and five cousins then you could say it was a very selfish way out. However, the sad fact is that most victims of suicide do not see it that way, as such is their state of mind at the time that they do not believe that anyone they leave behind will be particularly bothered, and by the same token, are unlikely to consider any other possible consequences of their actions such as the ones you mention. So, whilst what you say is technically correct, I do not think it can be looked at in such a black-and-white manner.

    Condolences Tezza btw.......
