My two pence worth - I've seen far duller matches, even ones that contained goals. There were some excellent individual performances from some of our players - Roberts, Mawson, Hourihane, Pearson and Crowley in parts, all of which I really enjoyed watching. The system was not very effective, meaning that the overall performance level of our players was not translated into goals. Overall in my opinion, there were plenty of good things yesterday and certain not so good things. Certainly the performance was pretty decent within the constraints of the formation.
Not. Some competent individual performances as you say, but we seemed to lose sight of the object of a game of football.
depends what your comparing it with. Ive seen worse world cup / champions league finals. Wasn't great yesterday, but we will get better and while we are picking points up through the early poor performances I'm happy. I can also see what LJ is trying to do, some things haven't worked and some have. He will find a better formula soon i would expect.
Uneventful. We never really looked capable of scoring. There were positives. Our centre halves look like they will be amongst the leagues best. Davies and Hourihane both played well. If the goals had been the width of the pitch rather than the length we would have scored shed loads. The system stifled creativity isolated Winnall and ruined any entertainment factor for me. I've seen worse games Burton the week before springs to mind but will I remember it next year definitely not. The manager seemed to struggle to develop alternative strategies when the initial one had failed and his substitutions were poor The words gelling and work in progress spring to mind.
Yep, the substitutions definitely didn't come off yesterday, though it could be argued that neither did they cost us (they nearly did mind). On the other hand, last week the decision to introduce Hourihane was arguably a game-changer. I'm not 100% convinced by Johnson yet. He does good things and questionable things, just like most of our players. I hope that there's a lot more to come from him, and I'm sure that there is.
I found it all a bit underwhelming. Listening to LJ afterwards, I get the impression he is happy to "write off" a number of games to get things working how he wants. That seems fair enough, but I don't feel he needs to "experiment" for the entire 90 minutes.
I dont agree he wants to write games off, but i think he is prepared to experiment a bit to get the right formation and balance. I still think he (and we) expect to come out of the games competitively and high up the league table.
