Very poor in general. OK the weather played a part but we didnt help ourselves by failing to play the ball on the floor. Too many long hopeful balls, noone able to put their foot on the ball in midfield and an obvious inability to even look like scoring. Looking back i reckon we were lucky to get a point. We created almost nothing. I think their keeper had two shots straight at him. We had our keeper to thank on a couple of occasions and the post at the end. For me Nytanga was very impressive an Foster again played well. Steele did ok in goal. Macken needs a partner up front who can score and actually graft. JCR needs to learn when to pass, Hassell needs to be played in his right position. Leon is skillful but a bit lightweight and not a winger. Van Homoet shouldnt be first choice, Nads should be dropped for lack of effort. From the players i watched you wouldnt believe they were in a local derby. Again the lack of local lads in the team meant we lacked fight and spirit in the team. As i said over a month ago i reckon 54 points and a very similar position to last season will be our finish. I havent seen anything to change my mind. Meaning we should still have enough in us to survive but i personally cant see where we have improved this season as a whole despite the money spent and the size of the squad Assuming there are no suspensions my team would be: Steele Hassell Foster Nyatanga Kozluk Devaney Togwell Howard JCR Macken Coulson
What about the local kids who played in the 3-nil drubbing? They showed lots of fight and spirit that day didn't they?
Cant remember that match Do you mean the one where we lost when Davey got the job? If so that was the one where Robbie Williams played right wing wasnt it? I did see yesterdays match though. We have lost before to the fowls but when we had players like Austin and Kay in the side at least we had a couple of lads who really knew what the match meant to us watching it. You cant tell me that Diego Leon and Van Homoet have the same feel for the derby game that Kay and Austin had can you?
RE: Cant remember that match but so what if they don't have the same feeling, they are better players and will do a better job. FACT Yes we would all ideally like to see a team full of Barnsley born lads but come on some people on here need to realise that they are not good enough. Also sick of hearing about last seasons players, FFS we have a much much better squad than last year, we will see the best of which next season. Davey is doing a great job in turning this club around. Some Barnsley fans really do expect miracles.
So they are better players then Why if they are so good do we have fans of Davey saying we will see the best of them NEXT season then? Is this to give them time to gel? What happens if we start badly next season does that mean they will be good in 2009/10 season? Just because you spend a load on transfers and wages does not make it a FACT that we are going to have a better team. Yes Davey has brought in some good players. Foster, Macken, De Silva, Muller, Nyatanga, JCR, Steele But he has also brought in some players who arent even able to get in the team or whom im not sure are decent enough quality-Ricketts, McCann, Christensen, Johnson, Odejayi, Mossto, not to mention some loaners Van Homoet, Nads, Leon, Kozluk, Souza i cant make my mind up over yet but barring Kozluk due to our lack of left sided cover i wouldnt pick any of them in my first 11. Whether you agree with my thoughts of these players, in the end its where we are at the end of the season but barring a real turnaround we are cutting it fine again. Does this mean we are a better side?
Austin and Kay just remind me - where are they playing now?
Don't remember any bidding wars between Championship clubs for their services.

Much much better squad doesn`t always equate to better team. If squad is better why are fans calling for Davey to bring in another midfielder.
Aye... in the third division.
Point is, not one of these local lads has left us and even stayed at the same level, let alone gone on to better things. They may be doing well, but at a lower level.

right wing? really? the performance yesterday was one of the worst this season. it was also a better than the 0-3 defeat last season. we have improved on last year and we are gradually improving. It will take a long time but we are heading in the right direction I think. Your pessimism towards Davey is terribly short sighted in my opinion.
