The end of pubs is nigh! Drinkers already well down from 10 years ago and many shutting, lets take numbers down again kill off a few more and just be left with the brewster type chains serving crap food, having a crap atmosphere and crap beer.
RE: The end of pubs is nigh! Doesn't just take the Brewster chains to have crap beer - check out Barnsley town centre.
exactly! Pubs in town would improve if two things happened. The drink got better, and they banned smoking. Looks like one of the two is gonna happen! BRILLIANT NEWS!</p>
I still say... Let individual pub managers/owners have the choice if they want to have a smoking or non smoking pub. and then lets see which pubs survive. it won't be the non smoking ones...
RE: I still say... The problem with that is in the type of pubs - let's say for instance that the Gatehouse ends up being the only pub in town that allows smoking (don't see it as they have a large non smoking area, but for the sake of argument), even as a none smoker I'd still end up going in there as it's the best beer in town. Also you don't know which pubs are smoking and which aren't if you don't know the area, I choose which pub I go in based on whether they sell real ale or not. Walked into many a pub to get to the bar and turn around and go out again. The Pack Horse in Royston has gone non-smoking but it's trade hasn't suffered.
RE: I still say... Not sure on this one. I can't see the great hardship in popping outside for a ***. However, when I did smoke it was great with a pint!!!
Back in the old days They had "The Snug" where all the smokers went for a smoke! That's how it should be now!
