Son and I paid our first visit to the York Community Stadium today and I have to say we were both very impressed. But I was also shocked to find that in many respects their setup is actually better than ours. Their ticketing and stadium access is better (fully automated turnstiles with plenty of help), their catering and queuing systems are better, their stewards are better (and in plentiful supply!), their PA system is better and they even have a scoreboard with a countdown clock that works (simple but effective, unlike ours). This is a club that plays in National League North, Division 6 in the hierarchy.
Anything is better than our catering. Is our own back in house now? Pretty sure it is but it's the same as it's always been.
Yes Gally says it has however from the fact that someone called Lee posted recently saying he runs it and bears street food is run by a guy called Lee I suspect it's him/them. haven't bears ran it for a few years or at least had vans in the carpark?
Went to Bradfield to watch cricket and they have a more modern up to date scoreboard than we'll ever dream about..
While ever we are saddled with a decaying ancient stadium we are going to be behind the times I'm afraid, you can't polish a turd.
I don't get the point of catering being brought back in house to make no changes. Same prices, same understaffed counters, same poor menu, no card payments alongside cash for more consumer choice, no way of ordering in advance to pick up at a specific time.
Lee worked for ABM, as we regularly spoke to him as part of the fanzone on matchday and now he works for BFC, I believe.
Well I would think after such a large gap without running any catering at Oakwell they want to get the staff back up and running etc before making changes. Certainly a question for the CEO though. I found a q&a in my email which I believe was from 2003 with Peter Ridsdale and I think the previous BBS owner. Guess what a lot of the complaints were about then Catering and matchday experience
Don’t go to football for automated turnstiles, catering, score boards and the rest of it. That’s why I sit (used to) in West Stand Lower. Just give me my seat back, my club back, our soul back and I’ll be happy.
No idea. Easier to have a human scan your ticket/card than be like Blackpool the other week with people struggling to know which way to put their ticket in for it to be scanned.
You'd be a dinosaur. An old fart holding the Club back from progressing. You'd be happy with a wagon wheel and a bovril. A pint in the smoky old club bar. Local lads staying for their career, knocking back a move to man u and scoring a hattrick from centre half. Maybe one day supporters will be nostalgic about the East Stand and the Conway Chien years.... maybe
With the obesity crisis this country has we need stands with wider seats, more leg room and more comfy like MK Dons.
