the 4 day county game has been on it's knees for years, despite being the purists claim to being the best,
international cricket at all forms will always be king, and probably rightly so, but to reduce the 4 day game priority to this isn't good going forward and reducing the 50 over game even further behind is criminal, but as long as certain players get a few quid in the hundred and t20 blast they'll be happy

As soon as Yorkshire sign any good players, England take them away:

    Root
    Bairstow
    Malan
    Willey.

40 years ago they would be back playing for their county when the international and tests had finished, although Forty years ago Malan and Willey would have been playing for another county.

I wonder if the Yorkshire membership has gone down over recent years? It hardly seems worthwhile given the constant non-availability of the best players. I suppose there is the social side of it that makes it attractive to many but your average, pay as you go cricket fan is being short changed.

The game is changing and not necessarily for the better.

and now the term "batsman" has been removed, so instead of saying great batsmanship its now battership or batspersonship
night-watchman, third man too, what goes next, "maiden over" if the unmarried ladies get offended
i'm all for equality and such and in no way am i one who thinks women should be in the kitchen, but this is just barmy

be interesting to see how long the old ex pros who now do commentary take to adapt to these changes if even pulled for mixing overs/sets up in the hundred

The guy standing at the crease facing the bowler is the batsman. No need to change that. The women’s game can invent a whole new set of terms - it’s up to them isn’t it. It’s a different game and not one that I ever watch, nor ever will.

As for the older cricket commentators - well, they are disappearing fast aren’t they. Not deemed PC enough it seems and that’s a shame. Piece by piece the traditional game is changing and, for me, definitely NOT for the better.

Don't see the problem with batter given that there's bowler and fielder. As a woman batsman doesn't particularly bother me, but if the game is looking to be more inclusive I don't get the angst about changing it.

Lead by 29 at lunch with 4 wickets down. Not what I was expecting this time yesterday

Be daft to keep playing him though for the first team when in such poor form. 1 swallow doesn't make a summer.
Ballance had to serve time in the seconds for a while.

True but it’s abart time he put a shift in, I hope it helps his confidence though a lot depends on him. We need to put them at least 200 on for a decent run chase.
