After a shock home defeat to Hampshire they are giving Warwickshire a good pasting at a soggy Edgbaston. https://yorkshireccc.com/home/scorecard/3804 With a 200 run lead after the first innings we had them at 7 for 5 before they made a sort of recovery. No chance of them saving the game though, even though it is raining now. All day tomorrow to get their last four wickets.
Started the season well Ben Coad. Surprised it's taken so long for him to get starts as he's already 23.
Ten wickets for the lad is not a bad return. Looks like another star in the making. Shame they have to go back in the morning to get one more wicket.
Yes that was unbelievable Jeff, they were 7 for 5. Ive never seen that before!! They offered some resistance and made it to 85 for 9 so we're needing that last wicket as soon as possible tomorrow.
It took half an hour to finish them off but it's an innings victory in the bag. Good start to the day. Now for another 3-0 Easter Monday beating of Brentford. I hope Hecky picks Allen Bradbury today
Shame it couldn't be completed yesterday so the players could have gone straight home and had an extra day off. Handscomb could be our best overseas player since Lehmann as he's going to be settled here pretty much all season and averages 55 in test cricket. He will want to try and get in the Ashes test side too, so playing months on end against English bowlers won't harm him. Andrew Strauss is probably finding a reason we can't play Ben Coad now. I see Bairstow and Root can only play the next game, whilst other test players who need rest more (Anderson as an ageing bowler who gets knocks) was allowed to play in the first two games. Hodd will be taken out for Bairstow and Leaning despite getting 40 odd will be the fall guy for Root. Not a bad top order for the Hampshire game though
Yes I wish we could have settled it yesterday when we had all those early wickets, but its just so typical of us to let a team off the hook and allow them back into a match. Hence the reason for us blowing it against Hampshire last week. This is a win though and thats what we wanted/needed.
At 7 for 5 they were looking at possibly the lowest ever county championship score. Credit Warwickshire with showing some fight but the result was right in the end. Even with England skimming off the cream again we can still have a title winning side I reckon
I can see us single handedly dominating the England team again like we did two years ago. Touch wood this wont hurt our county's progress in the Champship.
I agreed the time Michael Vaughan said Yorkshire in a test match scenario would beat England. But then Strauss would probably want the Yorkshire lads in the England team.
