Somerset only managed 1 batting point meaning Yorkshire are officially safe from relegation. If Middlesex get 250 runs (in the same match) they're safe too.

Between now and next season the gop order batting needs some serious work and improvement plus a replacement needed for the now retired Sidebottom

As JT said batting especially top of the order needs sorting. The overseas player needs to be an opener or #3 who will be available all season and get 1000+ runs. If they get good starts then the middle order will be ok, frequently this season they're coming in at 20-3 etc. Balance has been excellent, Lythe has 500 runs at 25 and so does Lees. Simply not good enough.

I'm not sure the bowling is that problematic. Is there any reason Plunkett and Willey only played two 1st class matches each? Simply down to form? I thought Willey joined us to improve his red ball game with a view to breaking into the test team. Plunkett is being touted by some as a member of the ashes squad.

What we know for certain is that the slightest whiff of a successful team means England come calling. It’s guaranteed and it stinks. The fact that we have any success at all after the squad has been decimated is amazing.

Iwish we would stop messing about with these short term foreign imports as well. They should either commit to the season or stay away.
