Wham do the numbers under the white rose of the badges on the players shirts mean?

Is it number of appearances? I know for the England team it's the number of caps.

On the England shirts it denotes the nth player to be capped by England (in Tests), the next one will be the 666th apparently.

I was watching the Yorkshire v Notts game today. Joe Root had No. 172 under his Yorkshire badge. Ryan Sidebottom had no. 151 (I think.). Not all the players had a number. I have thought of 2 possibilities:

That they are the number order of players who have captained Yorkshire.
    Or
It relates to the number order of Yorkshire players who have been capped by England in tests.

    Does anyone know for definite?

It's like England, it's their number in order of receiving their Yorkshire cap. Number 1 is (was) Lord Hawke.

    Fantastic website they have.

    This.

You will notice uncapped players wear a rose bud and not a flowering white rose. They also wear a thick dark blue band on clothing around the sleeves and collar etc, capped players wear a band of royal blue and yellow
