Born in London to Irish/Polish parents and having lived here since the age of two I think I have the right to call myself a Yorkshireman. Work mates say not -- saying if you're not born in the county you can never be a Yorkshireman. Is that right?
In terms of cricket, historically before the county dropped the rule, then no. My dad wouldn't let my mum leave Yorkshire in the run up to my birth for that very reason. But I reckon you qualify
I was also unfortunate enough to be born outside of Yorkshire but then to have the good luck of moving there (well, being moved there) at the age of two. I consider myself an "Honorary Yorkshireman".
I think it's fair to say, old mate That both dustani and your good self can rightly be labelled as "Honorary Yorkshiremen".
Re: I think it's fair to say, old mate heres one for you to sort for me then baldrick, i was born and raised in doncaster, part of the old west riding ( think it comes from the norse "triding" meaning 3rd) but is doncaster part of scotland like it said on the news last year, i never heard the end of the arguement. (treaty of durham/york or summat)..................... go indie,... go indie,.go indie
No It isn't part of Scotland. <img src ="http://www.tmcentertainment.co.uk/images/speaker-index/SpeakOutTonyRobinson.jpg">
Yes, you are not a Yorkshire Man. You have to be born in the broad acres to be that. But don't worry we will adopt you as a Yorkshire Man.
Re: I think it's fair to say, old mate treaty of durham 1136, thought never to have been reversed................. wuhooooooo free tuition and old age care...... "oh flower of scotland, when will ye be."
Nah, it's garbage mate Along similar lines to the myth that Berwick-upon-Tweed still being at war with the Soviet Union due to an error with the peace treaty signed at the end of the Crimean War. In the 1960's (I think) there was a civic reception for the Soviet Ambassador, when the mayor of Berwick told him something along the lines of "The war is now officially over between Berwick & the U.S.S.R.. You can tell your people they can now sleep easy in their beds!"
