Done the pools this week and again missed out on the supposed jackpot by 1 draw. 8 from 12 is apparently the jackpot - I got 7.

One of the games was Walsall 1 - 2 Millwall. A game in which Millwall got a last minute winner :((

Another game was this one http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_3/7764793.stm Brentford 2 - 1 Bradford. The winner was scored with the last kick of the game. On that same page I've linked to it says "Scott Pleased After Late Goal Show" No i'm ******* not!! I'm gutted to be totally honest!

Scott.

When I did the pools many years ago they sometimes paid the jackpot on fewer points than usual. Jackpot claims for 24 points was the norm (8 x score draws), but if there weren't many draws they could pay the jackpot on 5, 6 or 7 draws. Maybe they do it different now. A score draw was 3 pts, a no score draw was 2 pts, an away win 1 1/2 pts and a home win 1 pt. Having 7 draws would certainly have won you one of the minor dividends back then.

Dare I ask...

How much you'd have won?

To be honest mate I have no idea. On the £1 stake game it says you only need to get 8 from 11 for the jackpot. Whereas I play the 8 from 12 game which costs £2.25, but the higher cost is only supposed to reflect giving yourself a slightly better chance, not the prizemoney. So as u know, I got 7 from 12 and I think a couple of those were no score draws, all the rest were score draws. If that is right what pontyender has put then one of the results that let me down was an away win - which could result in me being even closer.

My second line I had 4 or 5 draws depending on what happens tomorrow (Charlton v Derby), but I went for Dundee Utd v Rangers on line 2 instead of what I was contemplating for line one to replace one from League Two that didn't come in. I really ought to have gone with that in hindsight. But then again hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'm still pissed off to hell tho.

don't beat yourself up, its not as bad a s you thought

if its the same as when I used to do it, you needed 24 points from 8 score draws

score draws counted 3points
no score draws 2 points
away wins 1.1/2points
home wins 1 point

and they usually paid out prizes down to 21.1/2 points

so if you got 5 score draws, 2 no scores and away win = 20.1/2points = unlucky

you just missed out on a minor pay out = 6 score draws 2 no scores = 22 points

If that's still true mate, what about the points for a home win? The totals you've put there don't include home win points.

Still don't know how it would work with me doing 8 from 12 though.

1 point for an home win

RE: don't beat yourself up, its not as bad a s you thought

21 points was the lowest of 6 dividends they used to pay out on. Like I say though, I don't know if they still do it like that. I think it might be 1 point for both home and away wins now as well (used to be 1 1/2 for an away win).

this explains all

taken from the on line pools site

Instructions:
1. Choose which game option you want to play, either 10, 11 or 12 fixtures in the top left corner.
2. We will mark your best performing 8 fixtures, so the more fixtures you play the greater your chance of winning.
3. Select the fixtures which you predict will end in a score draw.
4. Make your selections by ticking the box next to your chosen fixture.
5. Alternatively, you can play a LUCKY DIP.
6. Once you have made your 10, 11 or 12 predictions, click the OK button to save.
7. To see your entries, click VIEW in the ENTRIES box located below the fixture list.
8. If you want to play your fixtures (numbers) for more than just one competition, select the required amount from the drop down box in the bottom left.
9. When you are happy with your predictions and number of games entered, click PLAY NOW to confirm and pay.
Scoring:
For each fixture, you will receive:
3pts – For a Score Draw
2pts – For a No Score Draw (0-0)
1pt - Home or Away Win

Each week, a points score of 21 or more will normally qualify for a prize. If you select 8 high score draws of 2-2 or more then the £3m jackpot will be paid.

Am I reading that right?

To get the jackpot you have to get 8 score draws of 2-2 or higher? What's up with 1-1?

seems a bit harsh

but I read it the same

when I did it back in the eighties there were 3 companies doing it

zetters - cheap to play, cheap prizes
vernons- meduim to play, medium prizes
littlewoods - bit more expensive, best prizes

seem to remember them merging or folding a while back, I typed in littlewoods and it took me too onlinefootball pools, so I took the rules from there.

Thanks all for your input....

Seems I may have been a touch further away than I first thought, but they do say 8 from 12 is a winning amount.

I'm knocking on that door but nobody is answering....yet.

You're right

In 2000, Littlewoods Pools was sold for £161 million. The company is now part of Littlewoods Gaming, a division of Sportech plc. Sportech bought Zetters in 2002 and Vernons in 2007, and announced plans to rebrand the competition as The New Football Pools during summer 2008.[2]
