RE: Wire trellis, Spotted leopard, Paddy's, Ring o Bells, Wine Shades.

Is there another Wire Trellis? The one at the bottom of Gas Nook was knocked down a coupla thousand years ago by the Romans.

Right old rough house too, full of marketeers, tracky bus drivers and miners with the occasional very bloody slaughterhouse worker from down Pontefract Road.

The Ring o' Bells was / is up Wellington St. if memory serves. Seem to remember being in there before a Saturday game when a bunch of Newcastle fans threw a chair or summat through the window at us. Reight set too.

The ones I liked were, in no particular order....

    King George Hotel

    Commercial (Summer Lane)

    Fitzwilliam (Sackville Street)

    Temple (First drink in there)

    Tom Treddleoyle

Thinking about Summer Lane, there were a few pubs up there. The George and Dragon, The Commercial and another on one of the side streets up from Darn's Chip oyle - Summer Street mebbies.

Anybody remember its name? Buggered if I can.

Yep - in the 2007 Good Beer Guide, which isn't something you can say for virtually every other pub in Barnsley

    Still there Dave, and...

believe it or not so is Darn's chip 'oil!

T' owd man's son runs it nar.

I can still remember Mrs Darn's dulcet tones: "Fish and chips, one and six"

Bloody hell, 47 years since I first went in theer. Wot wor t'other chippy called, just a bit further down Summer Lane?
