Since it's the third round draw this weekend i just wondered what were peoples favorite memories of Bfc in the FA cup. There have been many over the years. The non-league opponents Enfield,Bromsgrove Caernanfon to name a few. The replays such as Stoke,Man Utd,Sheff Utd Leeds. The controversial and heartbreaking momenets like Gunnar Halle's non tackle,Odejayi's miss. Or the big club scalps such as Spurs,Man Utd Chelsea and Liverpool. Would be nice to read some interesting stories or memories you have.
Johnny Evans scoring equaliser with last kick off game to earn a replay with Cardiff. 3rd Round 1967. The final whistle went as the ball crossed the line and at that time we used to get to the top of banking at the side of Brewery Stand to get a flyer, the whistle went and we were flying down the bank with about another 30 to 40 fans and had to wait while we got home to see if ref had allowed it. Nearly lost my life once or twice as a kid running and sliding darn that banking.
Leicester away in 1990, my first ever away game. Filbert Street in the pouring rain, cheered on by 4000 travelling reds. Came back from 1-0 down at half time to win 2-1, David Currie and Steve Lowndes scoring for us. Still remember clinging to the fence with 5 minutes left and Malcom Shotton coming right over to where I was clinging to the fence to get the crown going (like we needed it!). What an atmopsphere, what a day. When the FA Cup really still was the greatest cup competition in the world.
Wembley weekend, without a doubt Including sleeping at Oakwell to buy the tickets, the night out before the game, and running about in my hotel wearing only a net curtain.
The Pink Panthers at Stoke are the first memories that spring to mind and almost leaving Bromsgrove before the late show. The less about Anfield the better I evan lost my mobile at Oakwell I'd like to thank that the person who decided it must have his.
Liverpool away - brilliant day from start to finish. Chelsea at home. Wembley weekend was great in terms of spending it with friends & family, but tinged with the end result. Others - Stoke away does stand out, for the surprise massive crowd. My other half at the time was an Oxford fan. he just could not believe the crowd from Barnsley.
Yep! Me and my little sis. I was working for Forte Hotels at the time. So I had access to a cheap hotel deal ... it cost us £5 a night each, separate rooms to stay in a hotel next to the Clifton Suspension Bridge, in Bristol on the way back. We had complimentary Sherry in the room (they must have known we were coming!). Great day out. Cant remember much of the evening if the truth be told.
Re: Yep! chelsea at home.... not oddjobs header the 4 - 0 hammering 20 years ago... hated chelsea with a passion ever since, arrogant ba****ds bromsgrove when we all acted like we were billy big balls and then had 3 pitch invasions because we had beat a conference team.... stoke away and the replay... 2 amazing games....
Re: Yep! 3 hour drive to Oldham in 96 in horrendous fog to be called off then going back week later and infamous 'penalty'. Good ones obviously Wembley run and 98 run. When we left Oakwell after beating Man U remember feeling like only one who didn't think it was an upset. Two teams from Prem and us at home so why not beat them.
That Bloody Sheff Utd tie in the early 90s 2-2 away, and then the replay which got postponed ... landed me in loads of trouble, cos I travelled up from Leamington, and the snow came down. Match off. Decided it wasn't safe to head back, so stayed at my Mum's. But I had Teaching Practice at a school in Nuneaton the morning after. They weren't happy with me ringing in with my story that I might not make it in the next day. I ended up getting up at 5am, and getting to school before any of them. Came back up for the rearranged game & wished I hadn't.
Re: Yep! Beat West Ham 4-1 but it was much later. Early 90s as Andy Rammell got a hat-trick. The Stoke replay (1988?) was absolutely incredible, the first time I ever stood at a game. I was ten, and I don't think my feet touched the floor for the entire 90 minutes. Remember the surge of the crowd when we scored the winner, exhilerating and terrifying in equal measures!
Caernarvon Remember the scandal about them raising the ticket prices for the game, only to find that if you'd have brought a beer crate to stand on, you could have watched from outside the ground. Same year, Aldershot away, where the post match police escort was nothing short of a hike in the countryside.
Re: Yep! The 2-1 at anfield - sitting in the home end and not being able to celebrate properly. Lol - i made up for it at work the week after.
Re: Yep! stoke was brilliant, remember gettin in ground early (pre drinking age) and argueing with a steward about opening more sections up bcos we were bring thousands, he just scoffed (who little old Barnsley) wonder what he thought by kick off lol. Might have been my size but remember the wall and fences being so high in the away end
These Still makes me smile now, and I was 8 years old at the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GSRuI5oKfY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyybFiOKMsI
