Now that there is loads of footage on Youtube, as well as many interviews on Audioboo, is Player a waste of money now? I'm considering cancelling my subscription. It's not like I want to see replays of the weekly hammerings anyway.
I've been wondering same thing recently, everything that goes on player seems to appear on YouTube as well and recently it appears on YouTube first and occasionally exclusively so with the exception of commentary it's rather the same right now.
I think the idea is to put bits on youtube, to wet the appetite...and buy b/player...if they see it aint working, they'll stop doing it.
I've looked at both. The content seems different on both and I can't see where the Player content is also on YouTube
No it's not IMHO. I don't think the content is the same and you can only get commentary on Player. I think the Youtube channel allows the club to do live feeds like for the U21s or prior to a game. I think they are also posting the odd old piece of footage on their to show the sort of thing available on player. There's much more on player and you can also see the full player interviews, full games, highlights of games etc. For what it cost as a year it's great value and the club also get a good lump of additional money from the Football league for every subscriber so its a really good way to support the club financially as well!
All the highlights with exception to full games are on YouTube and have appeared on there before player and there are even the videos like the behind the scenes signing of Pedersen that don't even appear on player, there is the press conferences on player but like the OP said they are mostly on audioboo. For the record though I still think player is worth it but I think that there has been a lot more free to access things popping up on YouTube that you'd expect on player.
Yeah, the commentary can be useful, but I'll be at the home games and prefer Jeff and the boys for the away games. I'll give it til the end of the season and see if it's still worth it. Whatever happened to the Monday show, Tuesday show etc?
Player is still worth the money for the live commentary, although I find it quite annoying that the videos on Player look like they have been watered down in quality due to being uploaded on their flash player. While the quick highlights etc on YouTube look to be in HD.
