I have only been once and it must have been about 10 years ago.At the time i just thought it was run of the mill food.I have read many reviews recently saying how highly people rate it for a meal and its surroundings. Can anyone who has been in recent times let me know what they think of it.
I wouldnt bother mate. Overpriced, and if you're not a regular they treat you like a third class citizen. Don't bother booking cos if a regular turns up unannounced they will give them your table. The fact that they often have deals on groupon says how good they are, having to give a cut to groupon and offer cheap food just to get people through the door. But, don't take my work for it - do a search on tripadvisor. But i suppose if you have a groupon voucher and are getting it half price i suppose the foods not too bad, apart from the service you get (expect to wait upto an hour to get your starter from arriving at the place) If its not out of your way, I'd suggest either Thaal or Jafran (darfield/wombwell). Prob a bit cheaper as well.
maybe i have had 2 bad experiences. But check out tripadvisor for a better idea. Last time i looked i think it ranked about #34 out of 65 restaurants in barnsley. Thaal was #5
Bugger. Meant to be taking missus. We both heard it was highly rated.Oh well. Will just have to experience it for ourselves.
We went on Saturday night And, as usual, thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I'm aware others haven't enjoyed their experience.
The couple of times I have been (admittedly the last was over 12 months ago) I was VERY disappointed. Over-priced and the mildest curry I have ever had - I asked for medium spiced and my 4-year old ended up eating it: that was the only good thing to come out of it - my kids will eat curry now.
not backtracking, but i have heard other people say it is great. Maybe JLWBL or Stahlrost will give better reviews, although they probably fall into the regulars category, and probably get top notch treatment. The last time i went it was early eveining and they had run out of onion bhajis...... Come on, who wever heard of an indian running out of onion bhajis. If i was the owner I'd have a member of staff driving to the nearest supermarket to buy the ingredients!!! Lazy.
Bloody hell looks like i've cocked up. Not sure whether to cut my losses and try somewhere else or stick with it and hope for the best. Always thought it had a decent reputation. Clearly not according to this thread.
If you've had unpleasant experiences there It's only right and proper you mention it, mate. As a regular, I've never seen the situation you've mentioned crop up. However, just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it hasn't happened and it's bang out of order, in my opinion. All customers should be treat with the same respect and gratitude, whether it's their first visit or their hundred and first.
You haven't cocked up at all. Me and the family go there regularly and have never had a bad meal/experience. The kids, including my 2 year old, love it!
An hour waiting to seated, then an hour waiting to get our food order. No starter after 40 minutes, walked out. And we were surrounded by people in same boat. They take the groupon cash knowing people will not bother. Won't get another penny out of me.
The last time I went, I felt like a second class citizen (you could tell who the regulars were). The staff were less helpful and interested with our table when you would think they would put more effort in.Food was decent though, just a bit more pricey than other local Indians.
Re: If you've had unpleasant experiences there how did it go mate? "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence? Hence - Dil Raj is now god.
Hope you enjoy it, mate I only wish the others on this thread had enjoyed their meals and experiences there.
Best way to guarantee good service Get Stahlrost to take you, that's how I did it. We even got to sit next to royalty.
Re: If you've had unpleasant experiences there That's it exactly, mate. I think the staff at Dil Raj should be made aware of these issues and I'll certainly raise it with them. Oh, and it's a scientific fact that Ronnie Glavin is God!
