no chance of 15k to 16k but id love to be proved wrong

well done to the club for recognising they need to be smarter with ticket prices and offers throughout the season.

lets hope those who choose to stay away as its too costly at £27 make an effort and get back to oakwell. ive a fear a few might find another excuse.

It's a nice offer, but it has completely failed to address two of the most fundamental problems with match ticket prices in football today:

1 - You have to buy tickets in advance to take advantage of any price reduction. You can't just turn up on the day and get a cheap ticket.

2 - People balk at having to pay £20 and over to watch a game of football. Spin this offer how ever you like, but you've still got to do that to watch these games. And it's not £20, that's in the family stand, it's £23 minimum.

You might think I'm being unnecessarily petty, criticising for criticism's sake, but I'm not, I just want more people to watch Barnsley matches and this won't do that. It will not work. We've tried offers similar to this time and time again and they do not work, but we still keep doing it. Football for a fiver works. We fill the ground every time we do it. This doesn't. 2000 on the gate tops, instead of more than doubling the attendance. The majority of whom will already be on the club's database, the primary reason for doing this.

The offer they are doing makes the 2 games cheaper than a season ticket. I also have to go to the massive trouble of buying my season ticket up front.

If a fiver is all people will pay then we might as well accept we are stuck with what we've got as that price is not sustainable for more than 1 game.

    3) given clubs recent form unless your a member of the bbs, have a degree in forensic investgation to navigate club website or follow club on social media then youll not hear much about it.

Fire up the email and text spamming machine. Get a couple of ads in comical. Big bright 241. Sell the discount.

Build it and they will come. Leave the bricks on the pallet and theyll be ignored

we live in an area like it or not, where people struggle on minimum wage, tax credits etc, with no access to credit at decent rates, the season ticket is not possible for lots of folk, they live from day to day, week to week,

so to give people the chance to go to a game for a 5er, even if they couldn't afford to come again, shows us all towns folk still love our club and want it to do well, festive footy for a fiver would be a great thing to do, lets get familys and kids who cant do and enjoy the social things we enjoy a chance to enjoy a day at the football

if they make the game wigan on 19th of December , day after school closes for festive break, what a good way for kids to start what should be their time of year by enjoying a family day out, give it the big P R , full page in chronicle, picture of L J as santa, tommy with elfs hat on, tag line a present from bfc to the people of barnsley festive footy for a 5er , what would it hurt for 1 game and a great boost for all the players running out to a full house, you never know L J might even get a few attackers in the box and join in the fun

To get people to come back you have to get them them to attend in the first place. A fiver will do that, this won't. I'm not suggesting for a second that everyone who goes to a game priced at a fiver will all return when we put it back up to regular prices, but if we play well and win, some will. That's the way of human nature: you experience something you like so you return for more. That cannot happen with an offer like the one we have set out because people won't go in the first place. It really is as simple as that. You've got to be radical to get them in to experience what we're selling and this just isn't.

If it takes a fiver to get them to attend the chances are they won't come back at increased price. This offer is a very good offer price wise, I really don't think that can be argued with. If we play well some of them might return, most probably won't. If we play rubbish the next game when they pay full price they'll probably need another dirt cheap offer to get them back again. That's human nature too.

I'm sure you'll think otherwise, c'est la vie.

I just quoted the first part of your post , because it sounded like you were bitter at people getting in cheaper than your season ticket cost (apologies if I read into it wrong), didn't quote your 2nd bit as that read as though you thought a 5er was a waste of time, my post was just my frustration of how the club doesn't seem to realise how most people have to live and the fact that one goodwill gesture for a day, that costs them nothing really in the big scheme of things , might reap rewards in 1 , 2 , 3 years time or even longer as peoples economic situations change, and shows they don't just care about money, but also the town they represent

enjoy your posts and you seem a good egg, there is no personal agenda against yourself

You're completely missing the point, I'm sorry, but you are, and so are the club.

Every Wednesday I go to a drumming group. Without fail, every week, I love it. I didn't know I liked drumming, but I do. I didn't wake up one day and think, out of the blue, you know what, I'll go to a drumming group today. I went to the village fate where my wife's school is. The guy who takes the drumming group was there with all his drums getting people to have a go for nowt. He was talking to folk, showing them what to do, giving out fliers and telling them to come to his drumming group and it'll cost 'em nowt. I had a go on the drums, I liked it, I went to the group and paid nowt, I liked it, and now I go every week and pay a fiver.

Would I have gone if he simply advertised it on his website that I could go to two drumming classes for the price of one? Would I ****.

It's exactly the same for a football match. The fact that we've made it a reasonable price doesn't impress anybody other than those of us who already go. It doesn't make people who don't usually go want to go. Make it radical, make it an unmissable deal, and people will go. I can easily prove that. The last two games we made a fiver sold out, initiatives like this barely increase the attendance. The hardest thing for a drumming club or a football team or a Zumba class or whatever is to get people through the doors. If you can do that, and you put on a show, people will come back. So if you're doing a publicity drive, if you're lowering prices, you've got to make it radical, you've got to get people talking about it and you've got to get as many people through the doors as possible. If you don't, and this won't, then it's just a complete waste of time. Not everyone you get through the doors will return, but a certain percentage will (if the product is up to scratch), so the bigger the numbers on the promotional event, the more returns you have.

That's not my opinion, that's how it works.
